Global Sale High Priced Collectible Cards

My son has been selling trading cards on ebay for over as year now and has started getting into higher priced cards - $300-$700 range. He has a buyer now through the Global Shipping program for about $800 for 3 cards. What can he do to protect himself from the buyer in China saying the cards he sent them are not authentic even though these cards cataloged and graded through PSA, a grading company. Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

I hate to say it but there is not a lot of protection for your case. Ebay has no way of determining if your cards are fake or not. If the buyer opens a return request you will have to accept it and hope you get back the same cards. Personally I would never sell outside the US but that is just me.

Not shipping outside the US doesn't protect you from fraud.

@the_boatwiser  Did he have the PSA authentication photoed actually in the listing?  That's the one thing that may help with authenticity claims.  Other than that, selling items like this on eBay does entail risk, whether it goes stateside or overseas.

Unfortunately even having the PSA or BGS grading number does nothing for the Seller as all the buyer has to say is that is not what they received and open a SNAD.  When they send back a 10 cent card in its place there is nothing that Ebay will do for the seller.  They are just out their money and their cards.  This happens whether its domestic or International buyers as the Seller has no way to PROVE to ebays satisfaction, that they ever mailed the original item in the first place.

I have been selling cards on Ebay for over 20 years and have been extremely lucky in the fact I have not yet gotten ripped off on a high end card.  But personally, I would never send a trading card overseas in the first place let alone to China who has a completely different set of rules that those of us here in the US.

@the_boatwiser Good luck to your son with his collecting and buying/selling higher end items.  Just help him to be diligent with his deals including who he sells to as there are now a very large number of scammers in the card industry and growing everyday.

I would advise your son to NOT sell anything on eBay he cannot afford to be scammed out of. And most certainly don't sell that stuff internationally. At least within the United States, he can always file a report with the FBI and in SOME cases, that alone will be enough to make eBay pony up the cash to make him whole. Lots of unnecessary **bleep** to go through, but that is the eBay way.
