Getting lots of inquiries about dimensions...why??

Howdy do!!  Well, sort of odd, I just got two back-to-back requests for the dimensions of an item...when my listing description clearly states what they are. (!)  Is this because they are looking at my listing through the mobile app, I wonder?  Not all listing items ask for the dimensions in the new "item details" thingie...is this what is happening, or are folks just too lazy to read my descriptions???  Had a few last month too.  Kind of slightly irksome. 🙂

This is true. In mobile format you have to click a link if you want to see the desciption. And first you have to FIND the link - and its buried at the bottom. Very poor layout for getting the important info where the buyer can see it.

This is because eBay's Mobile App is designed to do ONE thing ... feed you ads and track your views.

They seem to consider everything else as superfluous.

The ONLY thing I use the Mobile App for is Sales Notifications & messages from buyers ... nothing else.

The only thing I use the mobile app for is to get more eBay Bucks when they run one of those eBay Bucks promos that give 8% in bucks if you use the web version of the site but 10% if you use the app.  😉

My PayPal "seller news" email last month stated that 48% of my sales were via a mobile device. The month before, it was actually over 50%

It'd be nice to know in our Sold Page, which method the buyer used to complete that purchase (Mobile Site, Mobile App, Desktop Site, etc).

Thanks Penquin and everyone else....it certainly IS a complex thing, isn't it!?  Well,  fudge.....I just got befuddled in my question...(can't reread your reply while typing this)...are you saying that the only thing mobile app buyers can see is the little description from the box on the listing form that is above the photo upload part? (The one just below new/used? And not the large description area that I use to give the full description??)  I guess I shouldn't get so irked then if it's not what I thought, which  was they're  just being too lazy to read my descriptions, but that they can't even SEE them!!  My head is about to pop from it all!

The buyer sees the condition description and your Item Specifics (IS) clearly on the app.

They see a shortened random blurb from your description and have to click on it to open the whole description.

You can enter your own IS when listing to make them more visible to mobile buyers, you are not limited to only the ones eBay gives you.

Here is a screenshot if your painting listing with all of those IS ... and a screenshot if another one without all of the IS.

A suggestion:  Right now you are putting the dimensions into a paragraph.....

Very nice vintage wool sweater by Italian clothes maker Les Copains.  This sweater features the Aston Martin logo in two colors of deep turquoise blue on a light cream sweater.  This vintage piece is in very good condition; no staining, and two small (1/2" and 1/4" long) holes on the lower back that need a darning stitch repair to prevent from growing.  The tag has some staining.  This sweater is unisex and would look great on either a man or a woman.  For men it is a size small and measures aprox. 18" across the chest, is 24" long and the sleeve's are aprox. 19" in length.  For ladies it fits from a small to a large depending on how you like the fit

Why not try isolating them so they standout:

Mens Size Small

Chest 18" (armpit to armpit)

Sleeve 19" long

That means that Item Specifics are extremely important ... Because, in the app,  the IS are clearly visible to the buyer without them having to click on anything else.

Start putting your dimensions in the IS ... just add your own when listing.

I also put at least one dimension in the Title, and I reiterate the dimensions in the Description.

Depending on how many  item specifics a seller supplies, they may not all be visible at first glance on the mobile app.  If there are only 3-4, they should all show; but if there are say 6 or more, there is usually a small arrow to expand the section and show them all.   I have learned that there are buyers who can't read beyond what is directly in front of them the moment they click on a listing.   This doesn't mean the info isn't there; they just aren't taking the time to click around to expand the different sections.

If you look at the screenshot above ... there are 16 Item Specifics showing on the app, without clicking "see more"

If you want details in front of mobile buyers, Item Specifics are key.

Here's one of my own on the app ... I add my own IS to every listing... there are 20 (all if them) showing in the app

"But even on other sites that don't have any of that going on, I still get occasional dimension questions that are right in the listing."

Funny to think a good part of it likely relates to the fact that American education is in free-fall.  I sell 40-48% monthly to international buyers.  International people don't even speak the language half the time and navigate better than most Americans.  American buyers are an atrocity of issues compared to international.

You also have to remember, OP... cell phone drivers don't have much time to read the listing before they crash into other cars. sob

Item specs are truncated in my view of the app, I have to click the arrow to expand just as I do with the description. I'm using an Apple device, I don't know if Android has a different view.

Good night and good luck

At least you are getting questions that make sense and have answers.

If I am ever asked about dimensions, I would be so tempted to respond something like this.

"Their dimensions are length, width, depth, and time like anything else in our universe."

If it works, sell it. If it works well, sell it for more. If it doesn't work, quadruple the price and sell it as an antique.
