Getting listings to show up on first page

I understand that a new listing will not necessarily end up on first page searches, but does sell similar (getting a new item #)move it up the search list?

Re: Getting listings to show up on first page

New sellers start out with higher placement. Maybe not the first page, but higher up the ladder somewhere depending on how crowded the category is. From their you normally start to drop. It depends on you sell-through rate, your prices compared to others, if you have defects, how many returns you get, and various other unknown factors. This is the main reason why so many come here complaining and blaming Ebay. They all start the topic the same, that they used to do better and now they have no lookers and watchers. They say it is all Ebay's fault and they cannot pay their bills. Many even think Ebay actually hides their items but that's not true and never been proven.

Re: Getting listings to show up on first page

the parameters of best match can be debated endlessly .....

A new listing will always show up  high if people use "newly listed" search.  Of course if 400 items are listing in the same moment....it's going to be tricky to be on the first page, but in general newly listed will show up there....... until new listings force it off the page......

Re: Getting listings to show up on first page

Thanks for quick answer. One more for you: Should an item I relisted as sell similar show up within say 15 minutes, half hour, or right away after i relist?
Thanks

Re: Getting listings to show up on first page

No telling how fast/slow............ebay says within 24 hrs.  If you have anything military (I had a Robert E Lee Plate)........can take hrs........also brand names can hold one up.  Some stuff goes thru more checking than others......plus it can depend on how busy the site is............

Showing up on first page is heavily subject to the search term a potential buyer might use.

@dhbookdsgive you very good info and advice.

I think they way you have your listing setup will have much more to do with first page exposure than sell similar or relist options?

Good Luck Selling!
