Hi all.
I just sold a book for £30, but it says that the funds are on hold? I'm confused. Why has this happened? I have 100% rating, have sold lots in the past, for a lot more than £30. Why should I send the item before I have the money?

if you haven't sold in awhile, they treat you like a new seller and they will hold your funds.
The faster you ship, the faster you'll receive the funds.

New or infrequent sellers will experience transaction holds while learning best selling practices. This helps sellers become established and build a strong selling history on eBay. New sellers typically experience holds for up to 14 days, although sometimes it may be longer.
It will go fast. Congrats on your sale!

Hi, You're on ebay.com, which is the US site, and sometimes the policies are different. You'll get better replies if you go to

Meanwhile, here's the holds policy page for sellers in the US:

If the seller hub says the order is awaiting shipment, you need to ship. Per the user agreement, eBay can place a hold for any reason, and no one here can tell you precisely why they chose that transaction.
Why should I send the item before I have the money?
Because that is what you agreed to when you listed here.

Well, eBay has received the money from the buyer, so the item really is paid for and it's time to ship. As you accumulate more sales, the hold(s) will be reduced and eventually go away altogether.
I can't say for certain if the UK site differs from the US site regarding shipping labels purchased through eBay, but here in the US you can use a portion of the held funds to pay for the shipping postage, so you should not need to be out of pocket in order to ship the purchase.

You realize every time you buy something with a credit card you walk away with the item and the seller has not been paid yet. Why should you get to do that when they don't have the money yet?
