Just curious if anyone else is adjusting the amount of money they are keeping in their paypal account because of this.
In addition to potential loss, it seems to be another added hassle that us sellers have to worry about.
What a total PITA.

Bills + low sales = conistantly low paypal balance

No
I've always kept a couple hundred in Paypal at all times just to cover any unfortunate occurrences that may...occur.

Good practice and one I will need to start being disciplined enough to do.

I've done the same too. I always have 500 bucks in there give or take. Even on peak Christmas season I haven't really seen it come close to zero. Probably because of daily sales. So I'll just leave it as is and check again in about a month. Valid concern tho.

Since PayPal is a money transfer agency, I never have nor ever will leave money in my PayPal account. I keep it in a bank where it is FDIC insured.

AND FYI MY SALES ARE BASICALLY UNCHANGED- MOST OF WHAT I AM LISTING IS STILL GIVING ME A 14 DAY OPTION, I AM NOT TOTALLY UP ON ALL THIS **bleep** BUT I THOUGHT THAT WAS GOING AWAY. AT ANY RATE I WILL NOT BE OFFERING TOTALLY 'FREE RETURNS' -
Whether you offer free returns, buyer paid returns, or no returns at all, you still need to leave some money in Paypal to cover things that may happen.
Just sayin'

I disagree. PayPal is not a bank.

Yes I keep the amount of my two most expensive items sold in PayPal as a reserve for 5 weeks. I needed it recently when I got hammered with returns. I still don’t know what happens if I can’t cover a return. I have come close but always been able to raise the cash. I’m sure it puts a giant strike on your account.

No one needs to leave money in there. As another poster stated, I scrape my Paypal account daily. If my Paypal balance isn't sufficient to cover postage or a return, it then takes it out of my bank account. It's MY money and I'm putting it in my account, not letting Paypal use it.
