Fraudulent information

I'm not really sure if this is a reportable issue, but here are the details:

I listed a USMC Good Conduct Medal and the purchase was made and a smooth transaction all the way around.  The purchaser has the medal relisted at a higher price which I have no problem with.  The issue is that they have included details about the recipient of the medal that are entirely fictitious or made up to add to the value or collectability of the medal.  I know the information is totally fabricated because the recipient is my great-uncle (my grandmother's brother).  Is this something that can be reported to Ebay or is it just a "buyer beware" type of deal?

Thanks

Mary

Re: Fraudulent information

It’s strictly “buyer beware”.

Re: Fraudulent information

eBay will not do anything about it unfortunately.   I would note that buyer's name, and put them on your block list for future sales because once a liar, always a liar, and who knows when a future sale may go wrong with you.

Re: Fraudulent information

Seller appears to specialize in these items, and he includes a lengthy description, with cited sources. He also states, "I am including 30 printed research documents on [the named soldier] from the Ancestry National Archive Files, Marine Corps Rolls, & Find a Grave." Are you sure that it's all fictitious?

It seems, on the face of it, to be very thoroughly documented, where your own listing unfortunately contained very little detail at all beyond what can be read off the back of the medal itself. Given that the medal bears the specific serial number of 82352, and there are numerous on-line reference databases available, it should be possible to prove or disprove specific claims, and the seller appears to have done his homework on this one.

@msym7485

What parts of the description are fabricated?

Re: Fraudulent information

The named individual (Chester Cart) is my great uncle (my grandmother's brother). The family is from Lamar, CO and Chester died in Sitka, AK in 1980. I have asked family members to give additional details about his service, but given that there is already misleading information, I am leaning toward a lot more information being incorrect.
