Fraud

I have tried contacting eBay directly. Unfortunately the customer service is non existent. I sold an item to someone with a no return policy. Even sold at a discount. Guy received said it didn't match description. I said ok, if your not happy I'll just accept the return, and it's whatever. I'll just repost it and hop someone can read a description before they buy. Long story short. This guy files a dispute with his bank and gets a refund. That's fine. But then eBay also charged my card for the refund, which makes no sense the guys been paid. And I didn't authorize it. This has been quite a while. Still haven't received my item in the mail. eBay shouldn't have charged me until I at least got my item back so I can recoup my money. I have been ripped off essentially. The guy has either been refunded twice on top of probably reselling the item at this point. And what have I gotten? Charged for the item that's already mine, and have not received the return. So I have just gotten a big middle finger from eBay. Thanks for selling with us though right?

I understand that and I appreciate it. To my knowledge I did nothing wrong, nor did I ignore or miss any steps such as the return label. I posted to here in hopes that eBay would see and help with clarification. The car is closed so I'm essentially screwed on anything I can't appeal it or anything at this point. And no I didn't technically open the claim but I did accept it. I was nice enough to do that. eBay did advise me that since I put no returns I didn't technically have to accept it. I'm unsure of the steps that would have been taken had I not. But I want to cooperate and make it as quick and easy on everyone is possible. I just wanted him to get his money back and my item back. I wasn't trying to get charged and lose my item. Like I said I kept getting told no further action on my end was needed. I would have gladly provided cheap return shipping so that at least I could potentially get some money back out of my item in this whole ordeal. The buyer even told me in messages the item was of no use to him so he would send it back. So I've waited all this time and no further communication or info from eBay just charging me. If I'm getting charged I just wanted my item.

There is SO MUCH here you do NOT understand. Has NOTHING to do with 'claims' or 'I have no returns' or 'I spoke with the buyers' or or or..........

There are 2 types of 'returns/refunds'.

1.) through ebay, completely DIFFERENT set of systems/rules which I won't go into since this is NOT what the buyer did.

2.) Chargeback; done BY the buyer and ebay has NO say in whatever the bank decides; which is 95% 'the buyer wins b.) buyer is NOT required to send anything back c.) ebay passes on the additional $20 fee that the bank charges d.) ebay CANNOT argue ANY point of the sale/refund and can only do 1 thing....ABIDE by what that customers 'bank' decides.

This was a CHARGEBACK. Period. Ignore anything you've said or anyone else said regarding ANYTHING that has to do with 'ebay systems' 'what you "should've done" what you "did"....simply does NOT matter.

So, if bank says 'you bad, our customer is right' - you eat it.

And...you eat $20 for 'fighting' said CHARGEBACK.

Welcome to 'internet/electronic payment' selling. Nothing new here; been happening for 20+ years.

That's the problem. It was supposed to be setup as I get my item back, he gets refunded. That's what we agreed to. That's only reason I accepted it. It wasn't a refund it was a return.

That is what happens if it is an eBay dispute governed by eBay rules.

But your buyer filed a credit card dispute, which is governed by different rules.

The only conclusion is that you had a buyer that simultaneously opened a MBG and a Credit Card chargeback.  This is unusual, and an onslaught on you as a seller ... potentially more costly as you may be responsible for a dispute fee (which at one time was $20, but unsure how much now as eBay has removed the actual fee amount from their policy page).

As someone pointed out earlier, when a chargeback is received by eBay, they immediately close the MBG case.

If I were in your situation, I would send a message to the buyer politely asking for the buyer to return the item.  I would buy a shipping label from PirateShip.com (sent from the buyer back to me) and include a PDF or JPG of that label in the message.  If there has been a polite dialog between the two of you, and if the buyer is kind and honest, then I would expect that the buyer would ship the item back to you using the label.

If the buyer doesn't use the label, PirateShip should automatically credit your account for the unused label, but you can manually request a refund up to 28 days after purchase.

Also, if you feel that the buyer is being dishonest and scamming you, you can go into your Order History, find the purchase, and then select "Report Buyer" ... this won't do much in your case, but it puts a flag on the buyer which could potentially restrict the buyer or end his account if he is scamming multiple sellers.

Re: Fraud

Did your bank or whomever you process payments reach out to you? Did you respond?

I had a similar case with a lady who bought a 10k piece of jewlery on here. Said he daughter bought it without permission. I said, fine, return it and I'll take it to the jewler it was purchased from and as long as the grade matches the grade card refund no problem. She got amped up about this. Sent to Ebay. I responded with messaging. Ebay denied the claim.

10 days latter I get a call from my bank. I told them what was going on and sent the same messaging to them. Case denied there.

Im pretty sure the diamonds were replaced with something else.

Word to the wise, respond ASAP when Ebay, PayPal, your bank, or whomever does your payment processing reaches out.

Re: Fraud

But I was never given an option to provide a return label. Again had I had the opportunity I would have. And he went to his bank before the claim was even finished.

@robhutch-58

It sounds like, in view of that statement ^^^^^^,  your buyer went to their bank for a chargeback while the eBay claim was still in the works.  Once they did that, any eBay claim no matter what the status would be closed.  Thus, eBay removed themselves from the situation and you may not have had the opportunity to continue, and accept the return and have eBay issue the label for the return.   Thus, the message, case is closed and nothing for you to do.

At the same time, you got the notice from the "Payment Dispute" where the buyer had filed the chargeback.  If you "accept" at that point, you are simply refunding the money.  The credit card company may require the buyer to return the item, buy typically they don't.  eBay, who has already removed themselves from the situation certainly will not require a return, as the buyer already has their money back.  The money for that came from eBay, who is taking it from YOU.

If you had disputed the chargeback, you still would have lost, but would be awarded an extra $20 fee from eBay, and the product need not be returned to you.

I suppose you could still try and contact the buyer and send them a return label, and see if they will actually send it back.  There is no incentive other than buyer honesty at this point to see if the product can be returned to you.
