Form 1099 question

I have two seller accounts on eBay. Do I get two separate 1099 forms for each account, or just one combining all sales?

Form 1099 question

What is the maximum in sales one has to have in order for eBay to generate a 1009 form, and do they send the form to the IRS?

If you mean minimum; it was $20,000 and 200 sales for 2021, and is $600 for 2022. And yes, a copy is provided to the IRS.

When deciding whether a taxpayer ID meets the threshold for receiving a 1099-K, Managed Payments will combine the payments processed for all accounts using the same taxpayer ID.

If the taxpayer ID meets the threshold, a separate 1099-K will be issued for each account with that taxpayer ID.

For 2021 tax returns filed in April 2022, the federal threshold is $20K and 200 transactions, but several states have a lower threshold that takes precedence over the federal threshold.

I think those states are:

District of Columbia - $600

Illinois - $1000

Maryland - $600

Massachusetts - $600

Missouri - $1200

Vermont - $600

Virginia - $600

Form 1099 question

Here's a slightly longer list that eBay published last year, I think a couple of states have been added since then.

Please note: a number of sellers who reside in states with additional reporting requirements have received a 1099-K, even if they have not met the 200/$20,000 threshold above:

  • Arkansas - $2,500 in gross payments with no threshold on the number of transactions
  • District of Columbia - $600 in gross payments with no threshold on the number of transactions
  • Illinois - $1,000 in gross payments and a minimum of 4 transactions
  • Maryland - $600 in gross payments with no threshold on the number of transactions
  • Massachusetts - $600 in gross payments with no threshold on the number of transactions
  • Mississippi - $600 in gross payments with no threshold on the number of transactions
  • New Jersey - $1,000 in gross payments with no threshold on the number of transactions
  • Virginia - $600 in gross payments with no threshold on the number of transactions
  • Vermont - $600 in gross payments with no threshold on the number of transactions
