Why are sellers being forced to accepted Ebay's flawed "Managed Payments," or stop selling. I've been on ebay 20 years and now am not allowed to sell unless I opt into managed payments. Why would anyone give all their personal financial information to ebay?

In most cases, checking isn't free, nothing is free.
I have checking accounts with 4 different banks, NONE of them have any regular fees, no monthly fees, no statement fees, no check fees, no transaction fees.
Of course fees do apply for non-basic services such as wire transfers, certified checks, foreign currency transactions, overdrafts and the like.

I've not spoken with anyone who is doing managed payments who speaks favorably.
Then you haven't been reading these boards........Many have posted here that, while there are somethings they don't like, they have no problems with MP. I've been in since August....perfectly happy.....I don't mind a once a wk payment. I don't mind shipping when ebay tells me to...which is before the payment hits my bank account.....never a problem, and that goes for the better half also. And No, I don't pay for checking either......
Fact is that Ebay is a business and is going to make the best decisions for themselves, as each of us does..... If their decisions hurt you as a seller.......perfectly understandable for you (any of us) to leave......but do it on the basis of your business......not on the "what ifs" that could (may never) happen to you.......

You gave that info to Pay Pal so what's the difference now? I have no problems with managed payments, my money is transferred on Tuesday and is in my account on Wednesday. I haven't seen any problems since I waited to the last push to sign up. Working well for my store.

@scarlett0214 wrote:1) What new Law?
The person you responded to didn't say anything about a "new" law.
2) You won't be 1099ed until a certain threshold. I keep track of my income and expenses and include them on yearly tax returns.
eBay needs to be able to issue a 1099k if you reach the threshold, and they have no idea of who will and who won't. They can't come chasing you for that info after you hit it.
3) There is no law "driving ebay" to ask for the routing number to your checking account. The amount of information they are demanding is absurd.
No, that was purely a business decision. They're taking payment processing away from PayPal, and they're going to pay you directly into your bank account. Feel free to explain how that can be done without the routing #.
4) Checking isn't free.
Finding a free Internet checking account isn't hard. Almost anyone can do it.
5) It's a **bleep** way to treat long term sellers.
It's business. They decide how to run theirs.

Not sure if you knew this but for many years eBay owned PayPal.

Since you’ve been here for 20 years, then you must remember when eBay made PayPal, a third party at the time, mandatory to sell and who you gave your SSN and bank account info to.
How is this any different?

Helpful. Passive acceptance is the root of tyranny.
