For those of you who sell on multiple sites

If a sale occurs on another site and you also have it listed on eBay, what reason do you use for cancelling the item. It seems to me that every choice has a catch to it.

No longer available ----- sold off site.

Lost or broken  ---------- can't manage your own business.

Wrong price  -------------See above

Error in the Listing--------Seems the most harmless.

What do you use?

Thanks

Lord no, I know my customers. They've stayed with me through other venues, both Brick & Morter and online (obviously my brick and & morter customers are going to come and see me personally....lol) . I have a friend who's fees on eBay went from $1649 in March to $450 something this month. Her customers absolutely adore her. To ignore such a drastic drop makes no business sense whatsoever.

Re: For those of you who sell on multiple sites

Out of stock is a killer on Ebay - unfortunately - not so on other sites I've used. It hasn't happened but if an item sells on both sites - I'll send to the Ebay buyer and apologize to the buyer on the other site where I wouldn't get a defect. Like someone else tho - I tend to not cross list - but it has happened.

Re: For those of you who sell on multiple sites

I sell on multiple sites often. I normally sell the item on the other sites quicker since 99% of the time, they offer lower fees than ebay, meaning that I can sell for a lower price and they are normally geared specifically for that category of item.

Therefore, have gotten used to using "no longer for sale" on many occasions.

Yes, I can see why, if it's something that might garner interest on both sites, it maybe wise to not sell on both. I'm thinking I will sell my higher priced items on one and lower on the other.....well not entirely.....some items I'm sure would be better suited to one or the other.

I appreciate every ones answers so much. It has really made me stop and think and realize it's not a one stop dunk deal.....lol.

Rule 1: not everything in life has a secret agenda.

Is there an error in the listing? No.

Is it the wrong price? No.

Is it lost or broken? No.

Is it no longer available? Yes.

Not too hard to figure out...

Re: For those of you who sell on multiple sites

@terrycanarsky the option to just end the listing without selecting a reason is only available on GTC listings. Listings for a specific period of time such as 30 days requires a reason.

If a seller does a lot of that even if selecting no longer available the seller could find themselves with restricted selling sanctions.

Those are not the reasons you can give if you sold on Ebay what already sold elsewhere. In that case  a no longer available is a defect (ie out of stock). I am not aware that ebay penalizes for removing items before they sell here, for whatever reason.

Re: For those of you who sell on multiple sites

You are actually right. I often double check my inventory due to so many ghost listings in the past. If I know I have an item but can't put my hands on it at that moment - I'll choose reason #1 - better to be safe than get an OOS. Most times I find the item hidden between 2 other items or misfiled - so I just relist it again.

As a power buyer if I saw a seller consistently cancelling listings I would avoid them. eBay used to have a rule that items should be listed on one site at a time. Cancelling listings disappoints buyers who may be watching and may indicate a seller who doesn’t follow through with their commitments.

i certainly wouldn’t recommend this for a niche seller.

Sellers who do that really get on my bad side. I collect vintage clothing and several times I bought or was about to buy something, only to be told it sold on another site or in their brick and mortar store.

I'm still heartbroken over one item that sold in a store hours after I bought it now. The seller said they meant to remove it from the rack but forgot and their clerk sold the item. I was kind of glad they earned themselves a defect.

Re: For those of you who sell on multiple sites

As others said, no longer available.

There should be no sort of penalty involved, as long as you did not get an order for the item BEFORE cancelling. If you have an order and have to cancel the order because of not having stock, it gives you a pretty hefty defect.

I have no doubts about that. And if you read a lot of their posts, you'll quickly realize their tinfoil hats might be a size or two too small.

Re: For those of you who sell on multiple sites

I do not give a reason so that would be "none."  I do not list the same item on multiple sites.  That way there is no unhappy buyer and no seller to look for a reason to cancel.
