Fishy buyer. Can anyone explain this?

The other day i sold a relatively cheap item with free shipping.  I have many for sale. The buyer has a average feedback of 50 or 60. No unusual feedback (given or received).

Immediately after that sale, i sold another one to a brand new user with  0 feedback who had registered on ebay that same day.

THE SAME LAST NAME AND ADDRESS!

Can anyone think of why someone would buy something from me, then create another account and buy another one?

I had a pretty heated debate here on the boards just before that happened and it was about free shipping. Do you think it could be a board user trying to prove something?

In any case i went ahead and processed the 2 orders like i normally would. I did not ship them together.  They both have tracking.

The reason they ordered with 2 separate accounts and same address: Yesterday Ebay had a $3 off coupon that would pop up when singing in. This offer was only sent to some members. So they probably took advantage of the free money from Ebay.

Ebay does these offers to boost their sales numbers for the stockholders. They usually give the coupon to members who haven't made a purchase recently.

I had a similar case recently. I note that you said sane LAST name but apparently not the same FIRST name.

A guy bought something he wanted. His wife was surfing one day and spotted something she knew her husband wanted. So she bought it as a gift not knowing that he had already bought one.

Worry related to the above is unnecessary and unhealthy

Wait for the outcome, hopefully good not bad.

@inhawaii

Can anyone think of why someone would buy something from me, then create another account and buy another one?

Anything is possible, but a more likely explanation is the second purchase is a "guest" purchase made without signing in to an existing account.

The scenario that richard1rst describes sounds plausible.

It's easy to understand your concern, sounds like a fishy deal. We should never have to think that posting here could lead to something like this. Be careful no matter how this works out.

Please, no need to apologize to me.  My writing skills leave a lot to be desired and I sure don't mean to cause any heat with anyone over my opinions.    Thanks, though, would love to take you up on the Mai Tai. Smiley Happy

Do you have a limit on how many items a user can buy from you in a set number of days?

This is a user to user board not eBay employees.

No i don't.  I didn't know that was a option.  I can't think of a reason i would want to limit the amount a customer can buy ... except i guess if it was a really high number that might be considered odd or suspicious.

I got negged by someone from the UK boards because they didn't love me.

So, it could be legit, or it could be highly suspect.

You will find out later....
