First time seller with their first offer

Hi,

I'm concerned that my first offer/buyer might be trying to scam me. I listed a coat for a set price (no bargain). The buyer has put in their bio to text them additional photos of product, send a handwritten note of my username and how much I was offered.

Could this be a scam or is the buyer taking extra precautions to not be scammed by sellers?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Re: First time seller with their first offer

It might have been a mistake on my part. I accepted the offer and am awaiting payment. I thought I’d ask this forum since I had a strong suspicion of fraud.

They have not paid. Instead, requested that I text over additional photos and username picture.

They're not planning to pay.  You'll receive a fake payment notification instead.  Why did you accept anything from them after the advice given in this thread?

Re: First time seller with their first offer

Your buyer has 96 hours to pay.  Did the buyer make an offer via messaging or was there an actual offer through eBay? It makes a difference.

Maybe that "fay" was someone's lame attempt at faux.

I'm confused by the "put in their bio" part.  Huh?

@soh.maryl

Actually, our OP @ten-8793  retains the default "Buyer Rules" settings what would require the buyer to put up a payment source in order to make an offer in the first place.  I would suspect then, that the buyer's offer was just in messages.  Otherwise, a real offer accepted by the seller would have been auto-billed and paid for already as soon as the offer was accepted.

Looks like a scam, behaves like a scam, chances are pretty good it IS A SCAM.

Re: First time seller with their first offer

Don't send anything via text, that is almost always a scam.  If the pictures asked are reasonable, put them in your listing and let the buyer know they can look at them there.

Never ever do anything in a sale that goes off site.  Not only is it a violation of your agreement with eBay as a seller, it is also 99.99% chance of a scam.

If they haven't bought yet, block them.
