First class $2.29

I bought a bottle of lotion. The shipping rate was $2.29 First Class. According to Endicia even a 1-oz package costs more than that. Was the seller eating part of the shipping to be competitive?

yep, that's one possibility........... on the other hand, he could have listed it 5 or 6 years ago with a flat rate and never "had time to change it".......... lol

I got a good deal because they also had Best Offer and I offered a dollar off and got it.  This isn't even the sort of thing I buy on ebay but Amazon is no longer competitive if they are not honoring the quick shipping we are supposedly paying for with Prime membership.

Amazon is still shipping many things next day or second day delivery. Mostly essentials, but also the occasional bird seed or clothing item.  Delivery dates are shown on search results pages. Yesterday I couldn't find my magnetic wrist band (useful for sewing projects or holding screws etc.) and the new one was delivered a few minutes ago.

The lotions I found did not seem to have delivery dates soon so I tried Ebay instead.

When I charge for shipping I often just do a flat fee and "share" the shipping costs to be more competitive and to make the sale more attractive.

That's  a great idea, that will always be appreciated by customers. I've always paid for the insurance out of my pocket and just charge actual flat rate shipping. I'm convinced my items bring more at auction as a result. And, like you, it makes my items more competitive.

I hear you on that... I bought a book around 6 weeks ago for my coin sales (because eBay is requesting Krause and Mishler numbers and giving me an error when I don't add that, however they are letting the items list... this indicates to me that the KM will be required eventually, so I'd better have a book that's not 8 years old for listing my new stuff.

The point being, they took 4 weeks to send it to me. I used to order on the river and get items a few days later. My river items are delivered by their in house couriers, so it's not a mail delay, but a packing and shipping delay. My DVDs of Seinfeld were also shipped around the same time (4 weeks after I ordered them).

Wait, do you know they took that long to SHIP or that it took that amount of time for the USPS to DELIVER?  Big difference.  Media mail is bad right now. At first I thought it wasn't happening to me but now I have waited weeks for orders I bought for myself, most days a buyer contacts me, and now my daughter is baffled because her order isnt' here on time.

Did they ship with tracking or just regular First Class Mail?

Chances are good they were paying for part of the shipping and I find it surprising how many sellers actually do this without even realizing it unless someone tells them.  Believe me it happens.

Just buy based on total price and don't concern yourself with the shipping cost.

That wasn't the concern or question of the OP.  Good advice, but not what the OP was asking about.

Of course they were.

Just as the sellers who are offering "Free Shipping" are not getting the post office to deliver them for nothing.

When someone posts advice on this messageboard, the audience it reaches is much wide than just the OP.

I apologize for causing you concern.  I was unaware that I gave you the impression that I was new to the boards or how they work.
