I had my first return under the automated returns process today. It is a remorse return, properly identified as such.
1. Return item was in the mail before I saw notice of the return. No chance to discuss or remedy following issues.
Work around: I've changed my preferences to require RMA, but this return was already done!
2. No insurance. Ebay labels don't include insurance. Did buyer notice this? Don't know.
3. No tracking. Just like I supply a tracking number to ebay who provides it to buyers, ebay should provide me with the tracking number for the buyer's return.
Work around: I was able to find the tracking number through the USPS informed delivery program. I suggest all ebay sellers register with the USPS in order to use this service if you haven't already done so in order to schedule package pickup.

Just curious did the return show up under your returns in the seller hub? If not how did you find out about it? We did the rma thing too so we won't get too many surprises.

Thanks for the question. The return showed up under "selling to do's" in the new selling view and under returns in my ebay. That was the only notice of it. Nothing in ebay messages or email.

Don't worry, you'll get the notice in a few days, weeks, months....

Thanks for the info. The same thing happened to me this week. I did receive an email though. The reason was "won't fit" which to me means bought by mistake. I believe it was an honest mistake. Buyer is out the shipping both ways and I should be able to relist this particular item no problem. I would be more worried if it was fragile or really expensive. Thanks again.

I find lack of advance notice troubling, is this the way it is supposed to work? I'd like the opportunity to say return it vs keep it, here's your refund (and then my next step is likely to bow out of free returns & TRS+).

It is only supposed to work that way for buyer paid remorse returns. If you have free returns the sytem isn't automatic.

@-jcdn2005 That according to the Fall 2017 seller update, but which is/will be superceded by the Summer 2018 seller's update. https://pages.ebay.com/seller-center/seller-updates/2018-summer/simplified-returns.html
Labels will be created automatically and immediately for
The only exception available to sellers offering free returns regards the refund amount if and when the item is not returned in original condition. That is all.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is RMA?
