First Time Seller Woes

Hello! So i sold an item for $80 about 3 weeks ago. It’s my first time selling so I’ve tried to be super careful but I’m so confused. Ebay sent me an email stating that my item had been sold and paid for. I waited to ship the item since that money wasn’t in my account on PayPal.

The buyer contacted me with a screenshot from their PayPal account showing where they paid. eBay sent me another email with a link stating to click the link to access my funds. When i click the link, it shows no money on my PayPal.

I went ahead and shipped the item after reading that my funds would be withheld for a few days as a first time seller, and when i click on ‘selling’ on eBay, i see a credit for the $80+shipping.

The item was confirmed delivered through eBay shipping and USPS more than 3 days ago. How do i get my money now? I’m lost.

I really wish you had come here to ask questions before you shipped.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if the money isn't showing in your PayPal then you haven't been paid. Even if it was "held" the transaction would still show up there with either "held" or "pending".

I truly hope you haven't been scammed on your first sale.

Is it possible you entered the wrong email address for PayPal payment? To check, go to your listing and do a sell similar and check the email for payment. Then back out of the listing.

YOu are most likely caught up in the 21 day hold on fund for new sellers.  You should take some time and get familiar with the selling rules on Ebay before you cost yourself some of your money.  The link below will help you to better understand the basics of selling on Ebay.

Read everything.  All the linked pages and available tabs on these links.  It will be a lot to absorb, but it is in your best interest to do so.

https://pages.ebay.com/seller-center/get-started/selling-basics.html

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/selling-policies/selling-practices-policy?id=4346

Also you need to improve upon your descriptions and pictures of your products.  One Pic on a brand name items is just not enough.  You should have good quality picks of ALL sides of the purse, the inside, the tag front side and the tag's backside.  Everything, leave nothing out.  Do not assume something is not important.  You can have up to 12 pics with no additional listing fee.  Use them.

In your description, be more descriptive.  Think like your buyer.  What would you want to know if you were the buyer.  The dimensions of the purse?  How deep it is?  Is the strap long enough to be a crossbody strap?  Exterior color, liner color, fabric the liner is made of, material the purse is made of, etc.  MORE, much more than you are currently posting.

eBay sent me another email with a link stating to click the link to access my funds.

No.

Send that email to spoof@ebay.com.

I'm afraid that was a fake.

THe only way that you can be sure money is in your PP account is by going to your PP account.

And if there are Held funds, they can still be used to buy a shipping label through Paypal.

I'm not in the USA, but our Canada Post shipping labels purchased through PP have a 5% discount. Every penny counts....

To the OP

also on the quote eBay sent me another email with a link stating to click the link to access my funds.

Never click a link within an email on funds. I think your account has been comprimised you need to call eBay and PayPal. I'd advise on resetting your passwords to.

Be warned there are numerous eBay / PayPal scam emails going around most say dear user and ask you to click a link. Most links have a virus keylocker attached in them.

Be very careful with your funds. Only use a short cut in your bookmarks to access PayPal directly. If your $80 isn't there you have been scammed

On second thought re my previous reply

Quote when i click on ‘selling’ on eBay, i see a credit for the $80+shipping.

This sounds like to me your in the Adyen eBay payment system beta mode?

In that case you would not see money in PayPal. Its in eBay waiting to be processed? But then I thought beta payments was not accepting PayPal?

In which case if you clicked an email link to access funds you may have been scammed. I urge you to ring eBay and clarify what has happened.

Let us know if your in the new payment system mode where you don't get instant payments. Or if you have been scammed from the email link.

I don't believe the Adyen Beta test starts until September 1st at the earliest.

Did you receive a message from the buyer asking for your PayPal email address?

If you did, and if you provided it, you almost certainly received a fake "PayPal" email, and you were never paid.

Not only that but I doubt even ebay would dump a new seller into a payments test.

The Ebay / Ayden payment process has not even started yet.  It starts sometime in September.  There is no way the OP is part of the BETA program for this new process now or then.  It is highly doubtful Ebay is going to select brand new seller to be int he BETA testing.  The purpose of BETA testing is to work out bugs in the program and/or add enhancements.  A new seller doesn't know enough about Ebay to know if they are experiencing a program problem or something else.

Besides, to my knowledge Ebay sent out invitations to join the BETA but has not yet sent out emails to those they have accepted into the program.  They will only be having sellers in the program that will not be significantly damaged by the inability to accept PP.

@rilecoke_6I'm not so sure you were scammed. Are you sure you provided the right paypal address when you created the listing? You need to go to your sold listing & click 'sell similar' and then check the email address in the payments field. You don't mention anything about getting an email from paypal so.....check to make sure you provided the right paypal email. If you typed it wrong, that would explain why the money isn't in your paypal account.

@rilecoke_6 Also be aware that phones and designer purses are scam magnets, and not real good choices for new sellers. Every week newbies come here having been scammed out of their items. And many seasoned sellers won't sell those products here.
