Fine example of how ebay works

A friend of mine made a Donald Trump Voodoo Doll and listed it on ebay.  She hand painted it and has NOT sold one yet on ebay.

So why does she have 30 product reviews on the listing?  Listing number 391944365400

The reviews are coming from an item that the seller probably had made in China in mass quantites to sell.  It is not handcrafted and they have sold a load of them.  My friend did not use a UPC number on her item nor has she submitted it to the catalog.

While she is thrilled that there are good product reviews on her item, they are NOT reviews for anything close to her item and could potentially lead to a snad or at the very least some grief from seller of the manufactured ones.

Why can't ebay just leave stuff alone?

It is part of ebay's artificial (just amusing to humans) intelligence.  One would surmise that since buyers are held in such high esteem, they could not have possibly confused a product review with feedback.  We see it every day.

I wonder if the issue might is that your friend's listing title contains the entire title  of the other seller's listing as an exact match.

I believe THIS is the true meaning of Stephen Hawking's warning that AI could destroy civilization.... he was concerned eBay's version of AI would become popular with business and as people became dependant upon buying online and having it delivered to their homes, this "AI" would prevent people from finding and buying what they need.... thus the human race starves to death.... but on a positive note: humans will be awash with Chinese junk and counterfeit Disney items .... so we have that going for us...

There was never yet an uninteresting life. Such a thing is an impossibility. Inside of the dullest exterior there is a drama, a comedy and a tragedy.

Why would someone imagine that the item - or the title - is anything unique or something that someone else hasn't already done?  You should tell her to use all 80 characters available for the title that might make that item stand out in search, or add to the non-existent (not even a single word) description.

That listing is already a SNAD waiting to happen.

Because ebay is actually a robot. Some things need human discernment.

Any listing with the words "Donald Trump Voodoo Doll" will have these exact same reviews.  You can verify this in a search. This was ebay's answer to- how can we make things more confusing and put review on sellers listings that have nothing to do with that seller or what they're selling."

There is one listing where a Donald Trump voodoo doll is pictured as a Cheeto with pins sticking out of it... same reviews!

Actually that is another problem unrelated to the product reviews....There is a detailed description, the first couple of times I clicked on her listing, the description didn't come up.  After leaving the page of the listing open an hour or two, it finally appeared.

Maybe this is ebay's solution to the complaint that listings don't show.  So they will show the listing, but not the description, since ebay is segregating descriptions now.

If you are using IE and already have a couple of windows open - then it will take awhile for the description page to open - there's something going on with IE - not Ebay.

It remains to be disclosed whether or not this venue is piggybacking on Google's new AI project in China, or sharing with that contractor. They seem to be contracting more and more with Google lately and this would be very expensive to do it on their own.

Why is it that when I search for books that I am told about " 5 new & refurbished from 14.99"?

Refurbished?

Automatically matching reviews based only on a description is bad enough, but imagine in the near future when things like item specifics and stock photos get added without even a heads-up to the seller or ability to opt out.  Per the recent seller update that's coming.

It is, but no "exact match" is necessary.  eBay just data mines titles and then "associates" the listing with a Product Page (which is where the Product Reviews come from).

They do this with my listings at times, listings for Lots where the Lot does not even include the one item that is the Product Page they associated it with.  If I list a lot of three dimes, 1916-S, 1917-D, and 1923-S, they'll randomly associate that listing with the 1916-D Product Page... and then put Product Reviews for 1916-D dimes in my listing.

guess i don't understand... if she hasn't sold any..why is there 30? reviews..so what is reviewed?

and maybe her's in hand made, but it isn't anything that wonderful..and says it is a kit?  which would imply you put it together...but really it is a doll with pind...and shipping seems a bit much ...for "standard"..  $6.05 seems like a flat rate envelope to me....

then maybe $20 is too much..really even a joke item that is suppose to resemble President Trump, maybe is a but much...and again nothing that makes it jump off the page....

but just my opinion here...why do you think EBAY is responsible for her not selling any....for a "joke" gift...there are others selling on ebay and probably that big site with the A beging the name.

why is EVERYTHING ebay's fault?
