Finding I can live without eBay

I've been selling  and buying on eBay for over 20 year. I help the company grow. The company never understood that  the antiques and collectibles that draw customer to eBay.  I'm so glad I'm finally leaving for the most part. I have a few things out but they finally pushed me over the edge.  They  almost got rid of me by getting rid of a listing tool I had hundreds of listings on. So I had to start all over. Many of the new rules over the years never benefited me only the big time seller or the rip off artist artist.   I was sick for a couple of months and couldn't complete some sales. Nobody lost any money. I refunded the same day. I closed down my site for a month get my health back together. And when I came back, they basically asking me to close down 100 more listing  so I can  start relisting againt . Because they drop my limit from 2 billion to 5000 just a few months .The old listing don't sell very fast, but they add a few dollars to the deal. And my new listing draw attention to my old. But my old listing are at my new limit. Even though I took down 90 listing  I can only put up a few things. I called them last month and one of the representatives that they would raise my limit this month, but they didn't.  I called called again. I got nowhere the fact that I've been doing business for this long with thousands of happy customers  has bearing no recognition no favors. The fact that I was very ill also had no bearing, I buy alot on eBay but last night I decided I would no longer use eBay to buy. If I can't sell but I can't buy. And the funny part is, I was able to buy the antique hardware I need it for my door for a quarter of what I found it on eBay . Yes, it took me a little longer cause eBay has bought a lot of google top advertising spots. lol  but it saved me hundreds of dollars . Thank you eBay, I will keep listing on the other sites and build up my business there because obviously you don't want my business here.

I love how eBay does not have to be fair to its customers, but sellers have to bend over backwards for theirs & still end up getting it in the rear.   lol

eBay is a huge corporation.  They can't make exceptions for people who get sick or everyone would claim it.  They also won't miss you, most likely.  Even a very large seller leaving wouldn't hurt them much.  It's not personal. It's business.  They're protecting their business.

Re: Finding I can live without eBay

You help the company grow...sure you, me and 18 million other sellers.
When you fall below standard did you really expect to retain your old selling limits? Wishful thinking.

Talking to CS reps on the phone is an exercise in futility, because more often than not they will tell you what you want to hear to get you off the phone.
Nope the only thing that has any baring is whats in your seller dashboard and service metrics. Feedback and amount of time on the site are never used as seller data.
Sorry that you had an illness but, Being ill, unfortunately is not an excuse for not completing transactions there are no exceptions or favors.
Although it is not necessary to announce your departure from eBay, you may want to know the only people your announcement will reach are other eBay buyers and sellers, not eBay.
Since eBay is a website it won't even notice that you've gone.

But before you go you may want to end those 77 listings you have going.

Best wishes where ever you land.

obviously you don't want my business here

"you don't want my business here"

is not the same thing as

"you don't want my business here under the terms that I demand".

Re: Finding I can live without eBay

When I first started someone told me to forget the word 'fair' when it comes to business.  eBays policies do seem and are unfair in many instances.  The things that we all complain about remain on the site because it makes eBay money.  Fairness never enters into the equation.  Their marketing may reference fairness and protections or whatever, but believe me, fairness is not a concern.

Use the same philosophy for your business.  But keep in mind that fair and honest are two different things.  You don't necessarily have to be fair, but you should always be honest.

I kind of get what you're saying and you're right it is an exercise in  futility .  but I'd like to be able to vent and also give encouragement to  other people who are thinking of leaving. Like I mentioned, already have other sites that I landed on. And I'm finding excellent deals outside of eBay. But it might be a good thing for you to realize you shouldn't have all your eggs in one basket. You never know what will happen in life?

You call it a 'demand' when all he wants is to be able to operate his selling business the same way eBay has allowed him to do so for 2 decades?    lol

Ok, good.  They do not have to be mutually exclusive.  I'm the same way.  But I also realize that is why I have a small modest business, and eBay has millions.

I look at that as the cost of doing business.  I dislike it as much as the next person, but I'll go mental if I decide to die on every hill.

Many sellers don't want to accept that antiques and collectibles do not represent enough business to allow Ebay to profit and provide the level of sales to justify the cost of its stock.

Ebay is still the leading site for antiques and collectible items. And antiques and collectibles are a very special area of sales where behaviors which are unacceptable to other types of sales are commonplace.

Ebay needs many other types of sales other than antiques and collectibles in order to thrive. And behaviors which are acceptable for antiques and collectibles are not acceptable to a more general group of buyers,

Some Ebay sellers of antiques and collectibles are being forced to meet standards which they have not hand to meet before and found their flexibility limited.

I have sold antiques and collectibles for a good many years after a successful career the corporate world. I know what other business are like, and I run my business, currently selling collectibles, with the same standards as applied to every other business I worked for or owned. I do not find myself in conflict with or limited by Ebay.

It is hard to teach an old dog new tricks, and I am lucky that the areas which concern Ebay are in line with what I learned earlier.

I make no claims based on FB or longevity on Ebay. Whatever I do make claims based on, is the merchandise I offer and the professional quality of how I do business. And should I fail to meet my standards, I expect not to meet Ebay's standards and accept the punishment that brings.
