Sold an item to a buyer in France and was surprized to discover that now Ebay is even charging a FVF (final value fee) on the VAT (tariff) tax that many foreign countries utilize. This-in addition-to the 1.65% 'international fee' in addition to the latest FVF increase to 12.70% from 12.30% Add them all up and it's really not worth shipping overseas anymore. Anyone know when this latest fee increase was 'slipped in' ?

It's not new, they've always based their fee's on the total amount the buyer pays.

They are charging their percentage on the amount of the buyer payment. That is the same as always regardless of whether the sale is domestic or international.

Why not? Your buyer is paying the shipping - not you. If they want your item they will pay for it. Plus you are using Ebay International Shipping which means that you are only shipping to Glendale Heights IL and then Ebay takes over the rest of the way.

If you utilize eBay International Shipping, you do not get charged the 1.65% international fee.

It was not "slipped in", it was announced by a Seller Update just like every fee change is. Paying fees on domestic sales tax started around the same time eBay started collecting sales tax. So I suspect paying fees on VAT started around the same time eBay started collecting VAT. (And it is not the "latest" fee increase, there have been several other fee increases since.)
Add them all up and it's really not worth shipping overseas anymore.
Like many sellers, I check the potential fees before deciding to sell overseas, not afterward.
