Sold an item to a buyer in France and was surprized to discover that now Ebay is even charging a FVF (final value fee) on the VAT (tariff) tax that many foreign countries utilize. This-in addition-to the 1.65% 'international fee' in addition to the latest FVF increase to 12.70% from 12.30% Add them all up and it's really not worth shipping overseas anymore. Anyone know when this latest fee increase was 'slipped in' ?

It's not new, they've always based their fee's on the total amount the buyer pays.

They are charging their percentage on the amount of the buyer payment. That is the same as always regardless of whether the sale is domestic or international.

Why not? Your buyer is paying the shipping - not you. If they want your item they will pay for it. Plus you are using Ebay International Shipping which means that you are only shipping to Glendale Heights IL and then Ebay takes over the rest of the way.

If you utilize eBay International Shipping, you do not get charged the 1.65% international fee.

It was not "slipped in", it was announced by a Seller Update just like every fee change is. Paying fees on domestic sales tax started around the same time eBay started collecting sales tax. So I suspect paying fees on VAT started around the same time eBay started collecting VAT. (And it is not the "latest" fee increase, there have been several other fee increases since.)
Add them all up and it's really not worth shipping overseas anymore.
Like many sellers, I check the potential fees before deciding to sell overseas, not afterward.

That may be so but international shipping costs have truly sky-rocketed over the years and the total of all the ebay fee increases over the years PLUS adding the VAT (tariffs) have all combined to virtually kill international sales for this seller! I've been at this game since 2008 and have direct experience with these matters. thanks for your reply

Right but it sounded like from your previous wording that you were not even offering your items internationally. I know that the rising costs will discourage international buyers but I will still list items in my selling account for sale to any country that accepts them regardless of how much the buyer might have to pay via Ebay International Shipping. After all - it is the buyers choice of whether he wants to pay that much. I usually get several international sales per month so it appears that at least some buyers still want to buy no matter what.

But again, the buyer pays the VAT and for shipping.
You do pay a fee on those parts of the payment.
The buyer may not want to pay shipping on lower value/higher shipping items, but that is true of any buyer.
Most customers don't want to pay shipping. They rebel even more if the cost of shipping is higher than the price of the product.
International shoppers can't find your product domestically. That's why they are willing to buy from you overseas, pay high shipping, and wait longer for arrival.
Add to that, there is stronger Seller Protection for eIS * sales than there is for domestic sales.
*and even freight forwarded
