Final Value Fee not just exactly 10%?

I always use the Ebay fee calculator and read that the final value fee is 10%. However, I noticed that I am always being charged more than exactly 10%.

For instance, I sold at price $85 with free delivery at fixed price. I was first billled and charged $8.50, however, I saw a balance billing of $0.68 for my next billing. So now, I am wondering if the final value fee should be $8.50 or $9.18? Does anyone experience this same thing?

Remember that the final value fee is not only on the sale price of the item, but also on the shipping. These are broken out separately on the invoice.

Sorry, I was not paying attention that it was without added shipping charge for the buyer. So I have no idea of why there was extra cost.

Since you are in Japan, it might be some currency conversion or VAT. You can see your itemized invoice in My eBay > Account tab > Summary.

Nope, I don't see any more information under itemization. I am asking EBay folks on that.

Just went through something similar with a seller in Ukraine or Russia who was questioning his invoice.

Difference was VAT (numbers worked out exactly for 18% VAT there). eBay adds VAT to FVF for sellers in some (or all?) countries with VAT.

Don't know what VAT rate is in Japan (or if it varies), but for your $8.50 FVF, an 8% VAT rate would result in a 68¢ additional charge (Vat is charges as a percentage of the FVF not the original sale amount, so if you pay 8% VAT, your effective FVF rate would be 10.8%)
