I put an item up for auction and after it closed, I accidentally marked it as payment received, then eBay takes a final value fee out of my account and refuses to refund it even after I ask a representative about it. They've really taken money right out of my account because of a mistake like that unacceptable, especially when the buyer never actually paid.

If you manually marked an item as paid, then you should be able to click again to mark not paid. I know I've done this in error with the shipped box. Sometimes my computer screen jumps and I click on all sorts of things I shouldn't be.

If the buyer never does actually pay, then the cancellation you perform with the reason of Buyer Did Not Pay (available to you after four full days from the time of transaction) will get you your Final Value Fees credited. No need to worry about what it says about the billing right now. Get the transaction resolved one way or another and you should see the fees handled appropriately.
