Fees

All eBay sellers pay fees, yet eBay is using those fees to pay for watch authentications.  How does this help those sellers that do not sell watches?

Re: Fees

The Final Value Fee is eBay's commission on your sale, no matter what you sell.  eBay is a for-profit corporation and the Final Value Fee is their primary source of income.

Where did you get the idea that all eBay fees are spent on watches? Whoever told you that was lying or just trying to annoy you.

Re: Fees

I don't know anything about watch authentications, but eBay uses its fees to pay for most all its expenses, including advertising that benefits all sellers.

Re: Fees

Same way the fees help sellers who don't use eBay's shipping systems and shipping discounts.  Or the people use external listing tools to list their items.

It would be nice if we could get fee deductions for services we don't use though 🙂

Huh?  There are MANY other things that Ebay offers to other sellers.  I'm not sure of your point.  Sellers in high in watches pay healthy fees for selling high end items.  If Ebay doesn't find better ways of protecting sellers with high end items, they will eventually leave Ebay as Ebay doesn't protect sellers as they should.

I'm willing to bet more products will follow this this kind of benefit for the seller.  I personally think it is a good move on Ebay's part as it will build more buyer trust in the site which benefits us all.

Not everything Ebay does is wrong or problematic.  If that were to be true I would not have been here selling for 20+ years nor would millions of other sellers.  If it isn't profitable to sell here then moving on is the answer.  But I really get tired of seeing postings that elude to everything Ebay does is wrong or problematic.  Are there problems on the Site, YES.  Are there any significant issues, YES.  Is everything screwed up, NO.

There are lots of sellers that sell successfully on this site.  I know some sellers are struggling.  This always happens.  Some to well and others aren't.  There could be endless reasons for that, but not always Ebay's fault.

Re: Fees

My fees are 2-5% higher with mp's.  Would not mind it so much except eb initially promised lower fees for most sellers that opt into mp's.  Had a $32 dollar sale yesterday and with the fees on the sale including sales tax were approximately 15%.  Plus, don't get to pay for my eb fees with my cash-back credit card, losing another 1.5%, since eb takes fees out of pending funds.

@oldold-timer

If you don't mind, I have a couple of questions as I don't understand how your fees got that high.  It isn't that I don't believe you, I'm just trying to understand.

The Fee structure is as follows.

10.00%  Average Non Store Owner FVF on Ebay.

2.9%   Money processing fee from PP

12.9%    Total Fees

In MP it is as follows

10.00%  Average Non Store Owner FVF on Ebay.

2.9%   Money processing fee to MP

-0.55% Fee Reduction in MP.

12.35%  Total fees for MP.

The reduction in FVF in MP is likely to offset the increase by now having FVFs owed on sales tax.  Sales tax is not more than 10% of the sale and often less.  So the new fee we aren't use to on sales tax is ONLY on about 10% of the sale, the rest, 90% of the sale is at a lower FVF rate than we have paid in the past.

Would you mind giving a breakdown of the fees you paid so we can see how it got to 15%.  That would be very helpful.

Re: Fees

I havent sold anything for a long time. I put a reserve price on an Apple Watch I was selling, then cancelled. I was charged 29.95 for putting it on reserve! Last time I do that. And will start using other sites to sell.

How does eBay spending money on customer support help sellers who don't use customer support?

How does eBay charging lower final values fees to guitar sellers help sellers who do not sell guitars?

How does eBay spending money to develop File Exchange help sellers who do not use File Exchange?

Expecting every single eBay expense to go toward something that helps every single seller is absurd.

eBay can spend their money on anything they want to.

As does any of the emergency services you may one day need.  Or the various shipping carriers to pick up and/ or deliver packages to you.  Etc.
