I started selling on eBay years ago. It was worth selling a $10 item. My item that sold today for $410.00 buyer purchasing priority mail and paid taxes. My net is 217.83. The fees are out of control. It doesn’t pay anymore. I’m better off traveling to sell my vintage toys at toy shows.

My answer is... No thank you
No need to prove what's already been proven..
eBay's fees are indeed approaching 25%
The fact that eBay charges a fee on the taxes brings the total to an outrageous total ..
No, eBay is not charging a fee to collect taxes or other such nonsense you all have repeated over and over for a while now . eBay is literally collecting fees to do one thing..
Take your money !
Money you didn't even have because taxes are not sold!
Ain't that something! ? 🤯
If you make false claims and we ask you to prove them, and you tell us you won’t prove them, then we can safely assume you’re incorrect.
eBay does not charge a final value fee anywhere close to 25% in any category. The fees are publicly available information.

The OP isn't coming back. The whole point was to open that can and start the division.

They are in almost every thread and there job is to .make sure eBay's image stays positive..
You're correct. The fees are approaching 25% .
They charge a fee on the entire listing which is the item, the taxes and the shipping..
There's been many many many people complaining that the fees in tax is just wrong. But again eBay's paid bit farm will try to change the outlook people.have by saying the fees are justifiable in some way..
They are not at all justifiable..
It's down wrong atrocious..
You're also right about deciding to sell your things else where.
It's not worth it anymore .
Good luck.
For someone who wants to drive business away from eBay, I must ask why are you spending time on eBay? Looks like you have an axe to grind. Maybe you are probably the OP's competition and you need her gone because she is smokin' you in her sales. 🤣

Why do I see the same accounts over and over responding to people here in this community with nothing but upbeat and positive responses?
It's like eBay has a team of people that come in here, sit a there computer and respond to complaints all day all night to try and keep the positive image of eBay going..
I see you
I know what you're doing..

How bout just don't sell on here anymore.
Not worth it
Any buyer can and usually.does claim the item they got is not as described and the buyer will get a refund..
No other store does this **bleep** .
Not even Walmart..
It's not the kind of business you want to have , forced to issue refunds all day..

Hah, you think eBay would pay people to say nice things about them in secret on a public forum?
I wish I was paid for doing this.

Can't speak to the "fake accounts", but none of us here are bots.
None of us are employed by eBay in any capacity.
On the rare occasion that an eBay employee does post here, he/she is clearly idetified.

Many of the familiar names you see here are experienced eBay buyers and sellers who volunteer their time here to help others when they can. None of us are paid by eBay. When an eBay employee does post here, they are well identified.

When you really go down the rabbit hole you'll find out that OP was an eBay employee making a false thread to give the other eBay employees something to work with making it seem like they solved why op the eBay employee only got 217 dollar on a 410 dollar sale in case an actual human seller is ever in that situation.

This is a place where your peers are able to answer questions and give advice to you if you need it. People are actually giving advice and yes people do give not only positive responses but negative ones as well. People who are seeking advice get the hard true and reality. Positive or negative. That's what a community is. You will have people who put in more than others those are active members of the community. If you have to question it then this isn't a place where you should be. In addition there are rules to this community. So certain things you can't do or say. Those threads, comments or user can be removed.

But it never really was a $410 sale. The tax was never going to be part of your money and neither was postage.

Where do you get your ideas?
08-27-2025 08:25 AM
Been selling here for around 20 years and if your fees are 25% then you are doing something wrong. I suspect as others do that this person is using the promoted tool

Maybe because we know how to do business on eBay the correct way? We know the rules and how to follow them? Maybe because eBay supports my family of 3?

Most everybody I personally know, that has relayed the same info to me (fees are too high!).
They are shipping through eBay and considering the Shipping Cost as an eBay fee, along with eBay's normal fee.
My cost of selling, from looking at eBay reports, averages 30%. (fees, promotions, shipping).
Not many actually realize that "shipping cost" makes up more than half of that.
