Fees and other beefs.

Between higher fees and softening sales, eBay has run it's course with me.  It used to be profitable but now, it's just another waste of my time and money.

@sakic92710   You posted you sold two items. $6.50 and $8.00. It did not sound like you added the shipping into the cost. With the cost of shipping, it would only be about $1 or $2 for each item.

They've gone up for me:

Fees Percentage of total sales in 2020 (Including PayPal Fees; No TRS Discount) = 12.4%

Fees Percentage of total sales in 2022 (Including Top Rated Seller Discount) = 13.5%

 

Lower your capital costs and adapt to more in-demand items.

Those additional fixed price listings are only for certain categories, and ebay does not guarantee their availability. They could end that promo at any time. I had too many listings to use anything other than a premium store at the time I renewed.

While other platforms reward me for my hard work, ebay just robs me. Its a pathetic money grab, and I'm tired of it. The fees here are too high, regardless of the volume of sales you get, there's no profit left to be had.


I get it. Most of the other "rah rah eBay" team doesn't. They'll get their turn eventually. But by then, no one will be shopping on eBay. 

 

So many things eBay does that sets sellers up to fail. Yes, their greed is some of it. If you don't promote, you don't get seen. 

Search engine does not work for sheet. Buyers can't buy if they don't see it/find it. 

 

Look, I have a quarter MILLION dollars of inventory listed. My sales are about as bleak as yours. I have much more that COULD be listed. What motivation is there to list, when it's not selling? "Oh you are listing JUNK" screams team rah rah. No, the things I have listed have sold before. I even have some items that are pretty rare, listed at or below what they sold for before, that aren't selling. Even running a mark down sale with a huge markdown, isn't getting sales. 

 

I too, am dropping out of the yearly plan. I doubt it will make eBay take any attention about it, but when I exit, they will not have the opportunity to screw me over, charging for the cancellation. I can close up shop whenever I want to at that point. At this point, there are not enough sales to justify paying for a store. 60 bucks a month for maybe 200 a month in sales? Today's payout was a breath taking 40 bucks. LMAO. Quarter million listed, and I got 40 bucks for the week.

@farmalljr Postcards are a dime a dozen. Branch out of you want sells. With a million listed you will be lucky to get anyone to see yours. Ebay is not hiding them. They are on page 89.

I really don't care what your input is. You are one of the many commenters that hide their store. Their is no reason for me to hold your opinion with any value. You got nothing to show to back up anything you have to say. Just like eBay does not take anything we have to say to heart, your words are empty to me. 

 

I will be using the mute tool on you. Your position here is just to belittle people. Had you actually looked at my store (which I do not hide), you would see I sell more than postcards. Instead you just post drivel to "knock everyone else down a notch".  The easy thing to do, to avoid your future drivel, I'll just mute you. Since your posts certainly have never offered me any value, I won't be missing anything.

Farmall ships all their postcards as packages at great cost to they buyer, says standard envelope doesn't work for them. Most of their competitors use standard envelope. I researched recently sold postcards and found that less than 10 percent of recently solds were charging package level shipping. They don't want to adapt to the change in the category or try standard envelope again, claiming it will ruin their store and shut down their account.  They no longer count as defects or late shipments the way they used to. I have a 0.00 defect rate and a 99.87 on time shipment rate. The couple things keeping me from 100 percent in on time are always regular post office packages that somehow magically don't get scanned in for days or teleport halfway across the country before ever getting scanned.

Please share where you read this.  It is not a promotion, it is a perk of the store level.

 

Certainly Ebay could change the structure of the various stores, but they have always had that ability on any of the perks of having a store, like when the added these additional listings in particular categories a couple years ago.

 

Here are the categories these additional listings are good for.

 

  • Sports Mem, Cards & Fan Shop > Sports Trading Cards
  • Toys & Hobbies > Collectible Card Games
  • Collectibles
  • Music
  • Books & Magazines
  • Movies & TV
  • Video Games & Consoles > Video Games
  • Stamps
  • Crafts
  • Home & Garden > Greeting Cards & Party Supply > Party Supplies

It appears you have over 1,100 listings that could benefit from this.  You do post in Movies & TV and video games.

 

If you have a month to month store  you could downgrade your store to a Basic store without missing a beat on the number of listings you can run.  But if you have a subscription, the penalty may not make this a beneficial move for you until it is time to renew the subscription.

Well, since I have the defects we have talked about in the past on my account, for ESE non delivery scans, I guess that makes YOU wrong. You can tell your tall tale how eBay doesn't count it the same, and how great the program is, but it really doesn't matter. Since I have the defect from shipments, and it's ME who will pay the price for poor metrics, I'll do things MY way. Your account is no concern of mine, and my account no concern of yours. 

 

I don't care if other sellers are hand delivering cards, or they use carrier pigeons, I'm doing what keeps my account SAFE. Before this happened to me, I heard other sellers with the same story. ESE works great, until it doesn't anymore. I didn't even use it when it first came out to be used. I could have opted in early, but I didn't want to.  I waited for the "bugs" to get worked out. Well, they still aren't worked out. There should not be ANYTHING showing late or non delivery with this program. And if you think it's not causing defects, good for you. The only way there are no defects is if there is nothing to show as a defect. Late is late, and it doesn't matter how you shipped it. ESE is still giving you defects. Don't care if you can't come to terms with it. Don't care if you want to deny it. It doesn't matter to me. 

 

You didn't change my mind before, and you aren't going to change it today (or tomorrow for that matter).

This is for anyone reading this misinformation. I know I won't change the mind of farmalljr, because they obviously wouldn't change their mind no matter what the evidence was. 

 

I don't know what happened to the seller above, but they are completely mistaken, and couldn't possibly be an expert on the topic selling an average of one postcard every 2 days. 

 

Before I stopped restocking cards to change focus a few months ago I was shipping 50 standard envelope eligible items EVERY SINGLE DAY.  I still ship about 10 of them every day.  I have shipped around 18,000 of them since the inception of the program.  

 

ESE don't give you defects. I am not 100 percent sure if the seller above understands what a defect is. The following is a cut and paste from the ebay page explaining defects.

 

A defect is a part of a transaction that eBay considers to have created a bad shopping experience for buyers.

A transaction can get a defect in two ways.

  1. When a seller cancels a transaction for out of stock

  2. If a seller is unable to resolve a problem through the Resolution Center and eBay steps in, and the seller is found responsible

if I don't have to "come to terms with the defects". There aren't any.  Neither one of those 2 things has anything to do with standard envelope. And they stopped requiring standard envelope orders to get ANY scans a long time ago. 

 

Here are some screenshots from my account. Zero defects, and zero standard envelope orders on my tracking report. My tracking report consists of one item I sent out with stamps because it was a tiny paper booklet and I figured I would just risk it, and 2 packages that somehow magically got delivered without ever getting a single scan (probably damaged barcodes or something).
