I Graduated from College almost 30 years ago which basically makes me as intelligent as the Pimpled Faced Kid that works at my local Dairy Queen, so forgive me if this mathematical Post seems elementary to everyone else. This is my equation: Bubba decides to sell his used bubble gum collection on eButt. BamBam buys Bubbas Bubble Gum Collection for $57.00 and $11.00 in shipping plus 4.77 Tax. eButt charges Bubba a fee for introducing him to BamBam in the amount of 12.9%, and as if that wasn't enough, another .30 fee. So, $57.00 + $11.00 is $68.00 and 12.9% plus .30 of $68.00 should be $9.07. eButt says the fee is based on $72.77 which has Bubba confused, how can eButt charge Bubba a fee on something that he never receives. Bubba is thinking about asking his uncle, SAM, how can eButt charge Bubba a fee on tax. This should be illegal, and I see a class action lawsuit in eButts future.

So you're ok with being charged "outrageous fees" on that one particular item, but not the rest?
Strange.

what if the items you sell don't require any sales tax. How is that justified.
If there's no sales tax applied then there's no fee on the sales tax.

Membership went down because the tax dodgers left because of the $600 threshold for reporting sales.

@fab_finds4u Taxes are applied to the sale, this depending to where you are sending the item, as per state that charges taxes.

I know that. What makes you think I don't know that?
I gathered the OP thinks a fee is charged when there's no sales tax and therefore the fee isn't justified. Why else would they say that?
Again, if there is no sales tax applied (some states don't charge sales tax) then there isn't a fee on sales tax.

It is simple at the time that eBay introduced FVF on shipping in 2011 (Nov) they also implemented selling cost saving programs
1. 12 free pictures in lieu of just one free & a 10 cent charge for the next 11 - I used on the average 6 to 7 pics per listing/. In my book more good, clear and close pics = more sales $$. Ya. gotta' also get the buyer to touch and feel the produce and see any product issues.
2. A monthly allotment of 50 free listing plus many time more time limited free promos. Today it is 250 free
listing/month and no promos (w/o a store. Used to charge a minimum of 35 cents per listing
3. Dropped the escalating listing charge based on the price of the items. As I recall the price point of the first increase was 50 cents at an item price of $20.00, there were other increase after that point too.
So soon one forgets the pluses they received that offsets out the minuses
.
Started selling in January 2010 and stopped selling in October 2021. My eBay/PayPal and Managed Payment selling fees has changed very little as expressed as percentage of my actual selling prices (never did "free ship") throughout my selling history in which I shipped 1665 items..Yeah costs were shuffled around in different eBay boxes but cost is just cost no matter how one dices it. Pass ed all my cost increases on to the seller & maintained my target profit percentage target. The biggest increase in selling cost was the USPS shipping costs. First Class Package certainly helped out for items less than 15.99 oz. and less.

So, eBay should collect and remit sales tax for you for free? Can you fill out the proper paperwork, cut a check, and mail to the correct taxing authority for 61.5 cents? Doubt it.

That 1965 Washington Quarter without a mintmark was produced at the Philadelphia Mint. That is why there is no mint mark. The Philadelphia mint did not mark coins produced in that year and many other years. Why do you claim it is an error coin when it is not? The same with your Bicentennial quarter, it is not an error. You cannot just make up errors on coins. There are actual documented mint errors. Not made-up ones by anyone who wants to.

why does everyone say lawsuit. If it were going to happen it would’ve already happened, but since it can not happen, it won’t. Sounds like bam bam needs to find pebbles and start their own flavor of gum on their own site, this way they can make up the rules.

If the items you sell are to a buyer whose state doesn't charge state sales tax, then, of course, your FVF will be based on the item price plus shipping cost.

Your right. it's just me, membership to Ebay is down 37% since they began taking over from paypal I wonder what their reasons for leaving were?
lol, to give us real sellers more visibility because we are the ones doing this for a living and not a hobby.

I don't have to keep up with the tax laws. I don't have to collect taxes, keep track of taxes and submit taxes, and eBay takes care of all of it all and I have a small fee to pay. Yeah, I'll take that any day. Thank you, eBay, for handling this for me.
