Feedback timing

I dunno... Just kinda frustrated I guess... this morning I got the first negative feedback I have had in years.. the buyer says they didn't receive the item, that  I refused a refund without the buyer them formally opening an Ebay case , and that I was rude. But here's the thing. I always check my messages and respond to buyers and I didn't remember  anything about this item not being received. So I double checked and nope, no messages from this buyer.  The first I heard of  this was when I saw the negative feedback remarks. But wait, that's not all, I checked when I mailed it and the delivery window,  I mailed it the day it was paid and the delivery window starts today and ends three days from now.  I first saw the feedback early this morning.  I refunded the buyer immediately, explained the situation to both the buyer and Ebay  in requests that the negative feedback be removed....Ebay responded quickly saying they would not remove the feedback . I haven't heard back from the buyer.  The Item was sent first class letter (no tracking)  because the price of the item was 2.00 and and the lowest  tracked postage was 3 dollars and change.  What's the moral/ of this story?

Don't let feedback get to you.

Re: Feedback timing

Moral of this story is use tracking.

Have the buyer pay the shipping on $2 items or raise price to include shipping (free shipping)

Maybe the buyer will be honest and revise feedback once they receive it.

I would not have refunded without a case.

How do you know the buyer did not receive the item as there was no tracking?

Sorry this happened to you.

@hotcofee

I guess the BUYER is happy now. They got free stuff, and you are worried about a red donut.   You can send the person a "feedback revision request", but they don't have to comply.

Is it possible this buyer confused you with another seller?

Re: Feedback timing

For a $2 sale of stamps?

What does the FB this Buyer has left for other Sellers look like?  Unfortunately, orders w/o tracking are magnets for this type of stuff.  Can you use the new shipping for standard envelope so that you have tracking, or it still more in postage than you usually spend?

Re: Feedback timing

Your reply to the feedback was perfect:  Brief, factual, professional.  Any future buyer looking at it will dismiss it as a meaningless neg over a $2 item.   Whether or not you want to re-think using tracking, etc., in the future is another matter.   But as for this neg, I say forget about it.

Re: Feedback timing

I never ever mail without tracking.  My only negative feedback came from selling something during my second year.  No doubt that feedback was unwarranted.  That was 2012 so I ignored it for a year and then it was gone.  You on the other hand are risking this every time you sell if you don't use tracking.

Your listings look meticulous yet charging $3.30 postage to include tracking would be a good idea.  I have 10,000 stamps waiting to be sold but I can't justify the work.

My thoughts exactly, especially with what the OP is saying about no messages received from the buyer, and (especially) the fact that a Neg was left before the delivery window had even expired.

@hotcofee: I would ask the buyer (again?) if they might have confused you with another seller, given the details you describe. If you work it out, then ask if he will revise his feedback.

Re: Feedback timing

There is over a 99.5% chance that the buyer received the first class USPS mail.  Think about it. And he also lied again when he claimed that he sent you an email, which is easy to prove.

You can appeal this feedback and you will likely win, use his two very serious lies. Ask the buyer to remove the feedback, he won't since liars and thieves don't human traits so don't spend much time on it.  Remind ebay that you refunded quickly.

Re: Feedback timing

You can't please everyone no matter what you do. Accept the fact that if you sell long enough and often enough on eBay or any other reseller platform that sooner or later there is a good chance you will encounter a buyer who is not satisfied and might leave you negative feedback.

As mkaczorsee said it is possible that the buyer mistakenly left feedback for you that they meant to leave for another seller. It happened to me once and eBay removed the negative feedback although I used tracking. The item I sold to buyer was delivered about two months before the buyer left me negative feedback. In her feedback the buyer said she emailed me to let me know the item had not been received. There was no such email to me from the buyer which was another indication the buyer had confused me with another seller.

Re: Feedback timing

yeah its more even at  51 cents... ya see, I sell stamps to collectors... and i usually pay about 60% of usps price for the stamps i use to mail ebay stuff... also , I think the collectors who buy my stuff sometimes buy more from me because of the cool stamps that i use to mail the stuff. some times i use stamps from the 1800's old stuff..  its a hobby , Im just trying to get the stuff I've accumulated over the past 60 or so years into younger hands to keep the hobby going... EBay has been glitchy from the day it started... I think if i decide its too much hassle to sell stuff anymore, I'll make finding all the glitches and reporting them my full time hobby 🙂 I dunno ... but for now its still fun and the people who buy my stuff seem to really enjoy it and have fun too.

Re: Feedback timing

thanks, yeah it actually worked out, the buyer retracted their feedback 🙂 I would do tracking but the stuff I sell costs less than mailing with tracking...its worked out for years just mailing the stuff with a few exceptions. If it gets real bad at some time in the future, I'll probably stop doing it  a few years ago, maybe 5 or 6 or 10 years... i dont remember, I hadda guy in brazil buy a bunch of stuff over the course of 6 months, then one day i  started getting messages saying he never got stuff eventually it was everything i had sent him , i forget how much total but it was significant, there was supposedly a time restriction on claiming an item wasn't received but neither ebay customer service nor pay pal were having it, i think i wound up refunding the guy before ebay/paypal actually had to take the money from my account... I dont ship to brazil anymore.. and the guy is blocked from buying from me... crazy stuff... Its kinda like the DMV 🙂
