I recently sold a MacBook for $710, and shipping was $13. When I looked at what I get back, ebay put the tax of the buyer, the shipping, and the original price sold, and multiplied 12.6% of the item I sold. I checked my funds, to see what I got, and it took $120.98 off! I have just started selling, and ebay has never put the taxes, shipping, and the orignal price in to fees. Is this normal?

eBay charges fees based on purchase price + Shipping + Tax
I'm not sure why this surprises you, its in the Fees Policy Selling fees | eBay

EBay has been collecting fees on the item plus shipping since 2011. The eBay fees on taxes started when Managed Payments started. Before that, just PayPal charged fees on the tax portion.

Seriously, did you not notice this earlier this month when you had a sale for over $10,000?

So you recently began selling, but didn't read any of the information about fees and are surprised about the fees you were charged?
Hope you will do some more reading about selling on eBay, just in case there's any other important information that you may have missed.

I'm going to guess the high-bidder never actually paid for that one.

Some categories charge 15 %. Be aware that this is just like buying from Macys.com and you pay with your Visa credit card. Macys will be charged a fee for the total price. In NY, the shipping and handling charges if any , are also taxed.
When selling items , keep this in mind and at least start your price to cover the fees and give yourself some profit.

Yes, it's normal.
But apparently more and more sellers don't understand eBay's fee structure before listing their item.

They need to read the digital item policy also.
