Fee Calculator?

Is there an online ebay fee calculator so that a seller can know exactly how much they'll make after all ebay fees and shipping are deducted?

Yes, I've read the fee schedule but no matter how I calculate what I'm supposed to make after a sale of an item, it never matches the ebay payout.

If there isn't something like this, there should be.  Obscurity of fees is deceptive.

Re: Fee Calculator?

you can't calculate the payout exactly until after the buyer pays........because the shipping & sales tax is unknown until that time and some of the fees are based on those numbers.......

Re: Fee Calculator?

Yes. Some are better than others.

The only caveat is to make sure the category percentages are correct. Sometimes you will find that these sites may lag on updating current percentages. YMMV

Your calculations will never match because you don't know where buyers are located before hand to include the sales tax added during the sale. And if you use calculated shipping there are variations there as well.

Re: Fee Calculator?

fees are not obscure...they are fully disclosed....

due to variables in each sale that are dictated by the buyers location, no calculator will be 100% spot on

I have seen this one, but I think it might be a little dated.

Re: Fee Calculator?

That's not correct.  I know exact sales tax and shipping costs.

Re: Fee Calculator?

I've tried that one. Very inaccurate.

Re: Fee Calculator?

Shipping location is of no concern when using USPS Flat Rate shipping.

Re: Fee Calculator?

Of course they're obscure!  Especially when looking at a payout that mentions a fee named "other".

The sales tax on an eBay transaction is based on the buyer's location, not the seller's.

So the sales tax could range anywhere from zero (5 states have no sales tax) to about 10% or even higher for a few locations with local add-on rates. The average nationwide is about 7 or 8% so you could use that to get a ballpark estimate.

Re: Fee Calculator?

So you are trying to calculate payout AFTER being paid for a sale?

Remember that there could be other charges from other sales that diminish the payout from the exact amount of a particular sale........  i.e. shipping/ad fees/store fee (if you have one)

My selling ID generally estimates an eBay payout of roughly 70% of the item's listing price, meaning eBay retains 30% of the item's listing price.
Lots of times, it turns out that eBay has retained less than that estimated 30%, which means that I receive more than my estimate.  Sometimes, I receive less than my estimate.

There are just too many variables.

You will not know in advance whether your buyer's state sales taxes are 5% or more than 10% (Los Angeles).

You will not know in advance whether your buyer's state also charges sales taxes on the postage that the buyer pays.

You may not know in advance what nation your buyer's eBay registration is in.  If your buyer's eBay registration is in, say, Italy or Japan, but the shipping address is in the USA, eBay will also retain (keep) 1.65% of the total amount paid by the buyer.  Often that mailing address will be in Delaware or Oregon, two states with no state-wide sales taxes, but the mailing address could really be anywhere in the USA.

Re: Fee Calculator?

how could you possibly know this before a sale?

and, the other could be a multitude of "new" add-ons that particular states and jurisdictions are adding on to the sale (like sales tax but different). Delivery Fee, road fee, etc....

"Of course [the fees are] obscure!  Especially when looking at a payout that mentions a fee named 'other'."

I've seen a couple of other posts where sellers question a fee labeled as "other."

That's another one of those variables I mentioned in a previous post.

You usually won't know in advance what state you will be shipping to.
I could be mistaken, but I think Colorado and Minnesota have implemented a type of "delivery" fee for on-line/catalog purchases.  The buyer pays it and, in turn, eBay forwards it (as "other") to the appropriate state's taxing/fee authority.

Re: Fee Calculator?

OK...I took the bait...I checked my last 30 payouts and saw none referring a line item to "Other"

maybe you're special....

a screen shot from your payout page would help

OK..if you had a line item named "Other" and was deducted from your "Payout" what did the "View" link say it was for?
