I'm curious and would like to know how much eBay makes from the numerous FedEx labels that I print. eBay is a business who needs to make profits. I would like to know how much is their markup on FedEx labels. They are very transparent with how much their selling fees are, and how much their final value fees on shipping are. But I have not seen any information on how much extra they are making on shipping labels bought from them and billed to sellers. Anyone have a clue?

It did sound a little, ah, um, .... yeah.
Then, again, how many times does the USPS tell the general, counter customer how much they charge Amazon or ebay or some other 'major' client? I think it is on a 'need-to-know' basis and we are just noise sellers.

Who cares? If it bothers someone, they can always get labels elsewhere.

I don't know how much the groc store profits on selling stamps (if they still do).......I just don't see what business it is of ours what profit any entity makes or why they should tell anyone...........they certainly don't tell us if/what profit they make on USPS labels.

How much do you make from each and every item you sell? You're a business who needs to make profits, I want to know what your markup is.

@adhesivenetworks Unless their financial statements become public nobody will ever know outside their company. However, they have published the fact that they negotiated a special rate on return shipping labels with USPS ... I saw one about come in around 1/3 of the original label cost paid by the Buyer. I for one think they are pocketing more per label then just the FVFs ...

"eBay touts transparency."
Yes, they are transparent to what it cost you to sell because that is part of your operating cost here and you need to know that. You know the fee they charge if you decide to use fedex thru them because that is your operating cost even though they are saving you money from dealing directly with them.
But the deal they made from fedex is their operating cost, not yours and you don't need to know even though they are making money on it.
Do you go through the grocery store or Walmart and ask them how much they buy their products for that are on sale saving you money? You don't need that figure, just the figure on your end. so in the fedex scenario you only need to know what ebay charged you for it not what they were charged for it.
People might have a clue how much another business pays for things but do they know for sure? no.
we had a supplier at the business not long ago that said our competition wanted to buy 1/2 a semi load and wanted it for the same price we pay. Not going to happen because the competition doesn't know we buy 20-30 semi loads at a crack. yes, we make a bundle deal but does the customer or competition actually know how much? No. Call us up and we are glad to give you a complete quote on a job but you just won't know what are operating costs really are, just the cost that affects you.

I don't recall eBay "touting" transparency. In fact, they often explicitly state that they will not be transparent about many things.

Not only that, but most companies involved in the resale of a service - both the reseller (eBay) and the supplier (Fedex) - consider the pricing agreement between them to be a trade secret and protect it with a confidentiality agreement.
Do eBay sellers generally tell their buyers how much they are marking up an item? Do you tell your buyers?
