FREE Returns or Not?

This morning I checked to see that the accounts here were put in Free Returns since its June 1 ... and of course I was also expecting to see many, many sales because of this new policy but alas no sales and gee, am I in FREE Returns or not?  The ONLY item I can find that is showing FREE Returns is an Auction that ends today ... which surprises me since once an item receives a bid we can't change things on the lsiting ... but low and behold, THAT item (pic below) is showing a FREE Return Policy and 60 Day return window.

The other pic is from another listing, NO FREE Return is shown.  So, is the account in FREE Returns or isn't it?

As to the 60 Day Return Policy ... that is an ongoing glitch here ... last year I tested 60 Day returns to see if it increased sales, which it didn't so I changed everything back to 30 Days ... now, from time to time 60 Days shows up on Relisted items.  The item below with the 60 Return was created last month and was relisted a few times through the Bulk Editor ... its like we have to check EVERYTHING all over again when Relisting.  I can not get a handle on what items or categories the 60 Day Return setting crops up on but it slips through every now and then.

I have been selling on eBay under my selling ID since 2010.  I have almost 2000 stars next to my ID, all positive feedbacks as a Top Rated Plus Seller.  I have many wonderful repeat buyers and every now and then a new buyer will pop in.  I have never once had someone return something.   EVER.  I have never had anyone ask for a partial refund.  EVER.

I listed 1 item this morning from my template and forgot starting today (June 1) if we want to keep our yellow badge on our listings we must offer Free Returns.

It wasn't until I came here and read a post that I looked and saw the item I listed this morning had no yellow badge so ......... I revised the item and clicked Free Returns.

I have decided if, by being forced to select Free Returns (since I want to keep the yellow badge I earned) someone new decides to return something on my (or eBay's through August?) dime, it will be the very last time I ever list anything with Free Returns.

Is ebay doing free return labels across the board or invite only?

I didn't get an invite.  At least not one I'm aware of.   I would definitely NOT LIKE IT if eBay took it upon themselves to change a listing of mine to Free Returns if I MYSELF did not select it.   Even IF they will provide the return label on their dime.

Sometimes I'm afraid to come here and say ....I'm so happy that eBay didn't change anything on my listings!

Because eBay reads here and that is giving them the heads up to look into changing something.  😞

I use the advanced listing tool, so there's no way eBay can change anything on my listings.

I use the advanced listing tool also. Was that suppose to protect us from Ebay fiddling with our listings? If so - it didn't work.

I have only occasionally used the advanced listing tool when I need to do something I can do with the regular listing tool (can't remember now what it was).  Otherwise I simply use the regular list your item thing that I have been using since 2010 (that I LIKE!)

Out of curiosity has a new business policy been created for the Free Returns/60 days returns? If so, is the issue resolved if you totally delete it?

Good question ... I don't use "business policy" settings so can not speak to that.  I did see someone post that Free Return options include both 30 & 60 day options.  The issue with 60 days is its outside the eBay 30 Day return window for the Resolution center ... but I suppose that will change too to extend the return window for Buyers.

Wow @mr_lincoln, I didn't even think about the 60 days to return items.  That's what all my listings have had on them for a long time.  <sigh>

Not altogether true, they have said they will not turn Best Offer on for listings created with the advanced tool.  They put one ID here in Guaranteed Delivery and it showed on listings but I have since opted out.  This morning they added Free Returns to 10 listings and one of them was an Auction with 3 bids ... I can not change anything on an Auction with a bid but they can and did.  I ike the Advanced tool & use it but its not a protection against anything Home Office decides they want to do on my listings.

Good point on "what else ya got?"
All my stuff is basically one off, so likliehood of an additional impulse buy is slim.
It's always a matter of what day is it and who's looking.
Cassini, or whatever it's now deemed, should be called Casino.

I like groups of things, like 50 Train listings or 40 model listings or 20 silverplate listings or 20 cast iron listings and so on and so on.  Yes, I have one offs but the "what else ya got" (love the phrase btw!) works for the multiple items in a category in that regard.  Using 2 accounts is good too, I aquired a lot of 9 Con-Cor HO scale tractor trailers ... I split them between the accounts 5 & 4.  The first week or two the 5 account sold 3 and the 4 account sold 1 ... I put all the remaining ones on the 5 account ... I am now down to one truck after a UPI on it last week ... it has one bid and ends tomorrow.  A clean sweep in short order on a lot like that is rare but it worked out.

@tunicaslot

What did they do to your listings?

I keep checking mine.  I'm still listed as TRS+ but I do not have free returns.  Also very odd that I had zero sales today.  Friday is historically a good day for me.

Yes, I brought it up on a Weekly Chat I believe or at least it come on a thread and one of the eBay Team replied, my question was something like can a Buyer use the Resolution Center on a 60 day return item ... I seem to recall the answer was no but they could process a return in PayPal of course ... anyway, I think them mildly pushing it way back when and now having it as a Free Return option simply means the Return window will grow to 60 days with the Resolution Center ... which by then may be renamed the Return Center ...

@banana*shoe*boutique, when I looked at your listings for *most recently listed, I didn't see anything you listed today, June 1st.   That is when the Free Returns thing started (at least for me it did when I noticed they took away my TRS badge on the 1 item I listed this morning).

Not to barge in but on 3 IDs here only one was put in Guaranteed Delivery so far, the older TRS+ Badge is still on the other accounts.  Neither of them have been added to free returns although I plan to check them later tonight.  I like how they worded the announcement on both GD and FRs ... saying in so many words that "they would be available" to Sellers ... which is whole lot nicer then saying, "look out pal, you're getting shoved in to the new programs whether you like it or not" which is really what is happening.

ah OK that explains it.  Thanks for your help!

So I need to watch for this when I relist?  Will GTC listings change when they relist?

Sorry for so many questions.  I definitely didn't know this would change without us, the seller, changing it.

@banana*shoe*boutique@, I sure hope @brian@ebay can insert the see full quote link here lol.  I can't remember what I said that you didn't quote.    But to answer your other questions; yes, watch for Free Returns inserted into your listings without your consent just in case it happens to you and - GTC? - I have no clue about that.  I have never listed anything using GTC.
