FOR PARTS NOT WORKING and yet it’s a SNAD

I get about one doosey a year. Today I got a SNAD for a cuckoo clock that had “for parts not working” 3x in all caps in title, condition, and description. They opened a return for doesn’t work or defective.

i called cs 2x tonight and they won’t budge. Where’s the seller protection? Ridiculous.

I recently lost a case on some parts or repair laptops. The buyer was upset that the hard drives and batteries I said weren't included actually weren't included. Just be glad it is only one a year. It does look like that category only has New and Used options for the condition. I hate categories like that personally. When dealing with those situations I find another category that is close with a for parts or repair condition.

It’s a travesty that eBay would not offer seller protection in this case. It makes absolutely zero sense.

Nope, unfortunately your cuckoo is ""Condition: Used" which means it "Works as intended". Here are some examples @wheredidiputthatremote how you might have listed, instead:

http://cgi.ebay.com/273895964551

http://cgi.ebay.com/223492267270

http://cgi.ebay.com/163779473911

http://cgi.ebay.com/254317279608

http://cgi.ebay.com/174001678377

Also, there has never been "Seller Protection" for Not As Described claims on eBay and PayPal, ever: Seller Protection only covers

1. Item Not Received claims on eBay and PayPal, and

2. Unauthorized Use on PayPal.

They used to close cases in the seller's favor depending on the circumstances.

@wheredidiputthatremote   Did you also select Parts / Junk for the "Grading" Item Specific?  While I don't think that's necessary i too put it in the 3 places you do PLUS the Grading section so it appears 4 times on the listing.  I have only had 1 returned like that in 4 years ... a Buyer "thought" they could fix it ... and because they couldn't he wanted to return it LOL!  I accept the return but did not refund the shipping ...

To be honest, with some components have been pulled they are not laptops, just a collection of parts.

That's how I would have listed something like that, too.

If I have a busted widget that's either incomplete or has no hope of repair for whatever reason, I wouldn't list it as "Widget for Parts or Repair," but simply "Widget Parts," period. I might even disassemble it a bit so the parts can be spread out in the photos.

That is the problem with expecting everything for nothing. Most people shouldn't buy parts or repair stuff since they don't understand what that means.

Nope, unfortunately your cuckoo is ""Condition: Used" which means it "Works as intended". Here are some examples

The "used" condition definition varies by category.  The category for the OP's listing (collectible clocks) has this as a definition of "used":

An item that has been used previously. See the seller’s listing for full details and description of any imperfections.

The only options in that category are "new" and "used."  There is no "parts or repair" condition choice and there is no requirement that the item function as intended in the "used" definition.

The OP appears to have chosen the correct category and correct item condition.

Under condition, you chose Used, which means the item should work.

It should have been listed as parts or repair.

Have A Great Day.

a little hard to do if the category doesn't support any condition except new or used though

In a situation like that, I would select "Used" (if leaving it blank isn't an option), and list it as "[widget] Parts" with no reference to "Repair" at all. Again, showing it as a scattered collection of parts instead of a misleadingly-complete whole would also be helpful.
