FAKE POSITIVE FEEDBACK FOR SELLERS: NO PROTECTION, WHY?

FAKE POSITIVE FEEDBACK FOR SELLERS:

NO PROTECTION, WHY?

A buyer left me Fake Positive Feedback because, he ultimately wanted his item for free.  Yes, positive feedback is a new/old way of extorting money  or goods and additional permanent punishment to Sellers.   FYI:  A buyer can leave you positive feedback riddled with negative contradicting words and low DSRs and it will (not) be removed, not because, the eBay rep can not read between the line, but simply because it was left under "Positive."

[eBay, you have got to do better than this.  Please someone, anyone, all of us:   Lets address this issue and help eBay see the light:  Positive Feedback with Low DSRs along with contradicting wording should be grounds for removal. ]

Its like:

1.  being 5'6 and weighing 300lbs, your scale erroneously reads 120lbs,  yet you want all who see you to believe you are not fat.  (no offense)

2.  wearing a wig with a chin strap, and yet you want all who see you to believe its your real hair.

3.  a restaurant's Rating Score of A in the window,  while simultaneously displaying a single Star, yet you want all who see this contraction to still believe you earned an A.

The buyer I am dealing with found the "obvious" loop hole in eBay Feedback rating:  eBay, you have got to be smarter than this.

The feedback apparently wasn't left on the id you're using to post, so we can't see it to make any kind of comment about it.

The feedback left was on another account.   The gist of my post:  a Buyer can leave Fake Positive Feedback with contradicting words and low DSRs and it is permanent, this is a real problem eBay needs to fix.

Re: FAKE POSITIVE FEEDBACK FOR SELLERS: NO PROTECTION, WHY?

Yes, I read your post. Unfortunately, as I'm sure you know, eBay staff do not actively monitor these discussion boards, so your issue will probably not be addressed by eBay.

I don't think you'll find many other members who disagree with you.

Keep in mind, however, that, while a buyer may look at your feedback scores, s/he probably looks at the percentage and the "color" of the feedback comments rather than reading each one word for word. When I'm researching whether to make a purchase with a particular seller, I click on the negative or neutral feedback number so I can read just the negative or neutral comments. Your buyer's positive comment is, of course, not going to appear among those negative or neutral comments.

I've been buying on eBay since 1998. I have never paid any attention to a seller's DSRs, and, of course, the DSRs don't affect your selling account in any fashion.

Re: FAKE POSITIVE FEEDBACK FOR SELLERS: NO PROTECTION, WHY?

Back in the day when dsrs had defects attached I had a buyer leave a positive "5 star feedback" while leaving all 1s where she could anyhow some were auto 5s.  Even then eBay kept refusing to remove it because it was positive.  I finally did get it removed because it had been a blocked buyer on another account and I was able to prove it was malicious.

Re: FAKE POSITIVE FEEDBACK FOR SELLERS: NO PROTECTION, WHY?

Now, had you left your buyer positive feedback with your words contradictory to the Positive left, eBay would remove the feedback for the buyer, yet Sellers can not have any form of a Positive feedback removed.  This buyer knew exactly what he was doing.   His was very calculated and this was not his first rodeo.

Re: FAKE POSITIVE FEEDBACK FOR SELLERS: NO PROTECTION, WHY?

I can't imagine feedback garnering such large font.  Especially why worry about getting a false positive?  It doesn't glow or stand out.  I was so happy when ebay removed the potential harm to a seller's ability to sell based on feedback.  Let's hope they don't go back to thinking it is that important.

This is not entirely true as Ebay has openly stated that DSR's are still used in their search algorithm and where your items end up appearing as far as visibility go.  So when a buyer leaves you low DSR's which most of the time you cannot even realize since Ebay removed the DSR report that allowed Sellers to see what Buyers were leaving for them.  i used to run that report daily so i could see if a change I made to my listings effected my customers thoughts other than just leaving a positive feedback.  I was not and still am not happy that Ebay took that report away as it was extremely helpful for me.

Re: FAKE POSITIVE FEEDBACK FOR SELLERS: NO PROTECTION, WHY?

some buyers leave it as a positive because they don’t want to hurt the seller. A green dot is hidden in a sea of green dots unless you choose to draw attention to it by following up which would hurt you more.

leaving a false positive for a buyer is a violation because it is an attempt to slime around the rules.

This makes me wonder if I've ever gotten all 5 stars from the negative feedbacks I have.

No one is going to even notice the contradictory words on the positive as long as you do not respond.  For me PERSONALLY... this is a big... who cares if a buyer said something unpleasant with a positive mark.  I've had a few positives with a negative statement, or even a question in it... I do not respond either to the FB or address the question for the buyer.  FB is not for communication, it is for a rating of the transaction.

No one reads positive feedback comments. Be glad it was not a negative as they do read those.

Re: FAKE POSITIVE FEEDBACK FOR SELLERS: NO PROTECTION, WHY?

I think allowing buyers to leave a green donut with neg comments is a good thing.

If buyers were not allowed to do it, they would leave a grey or red donut with neg comments, and those donuts stand right out on a sellers feedback page.

I can't speak for all buyers, but I never read green donut comments..

Hi @getitright1234, this would not be considered a loophole as the buyer is allowed to leave you a negative feedback with the same comments. Because the buyer has the option of leaving a negative, neutral, or positive rating, we do not remove comments that are negative in tone when the rating is positive. This is not against policy because we do not believe there is anything wrong or manipulative about the buyer leaving this kind of feedback. They are within their rights to rate you positively and include a negative comment if they so choose.
