External views way up …

Can anyone explain what would cause my external views to jump this much?

I’ve changed nothing. Same ol’ same on my end for quite sometime. Same coupons/sales, same listing habits, yet a few days back my external views started going up and are at the highest they have been in a very long time and seem to be continuing to go up.

Definitely not complaining, just wondering if anything has maybe changed that I missed, or? 🤔

Perhaps your recent popular posts to this board? They get indexed on Google almost immediately, unlike our listings.

@pennpicker

Well, there’s something that had not even crossed my mind and timing would fit nicely into the increase. 😂

@pennpicker curious how that would show up on Google; what would a person be 'searching' in google for anything 'said on a forum' to pop up? Just the username or??

@kickin.assets just an fyi; my listing 'impressions' doubled overnight about 6 months from 1,000,000 a month to over 2,000,000 and views from 10,000 to over 15,000. Been that way since. No idea why (I did nothing different either)

@kickin.assets  have you listed new items lately or ended relisted some items in the last few days?

I've often seen trends like what you are showing there when sellers end and relist or create new listings because those new or relisted items get fed out to Google and typically get a "bump".

If it is that, it's also important to note that sometimes you'll see those "spikes" go away 48-72 hrs later as eBay reconciles the data the reporting and filters out "bot clicks."

Keep an eye on those dates that show the spikes and see if the same dates still show those same numbers over the next few days as it "settles" out.

Wish I knew. Social media posts linking probably play a part, but just a guess. Have some other suspicions but all of them could be erroneous.

Some members purposely do so and have done so for years. If it wasn't working for them, I have a difficult time seeing them continuing to do so, and for so long.  Similar postings to less high profile forums are able to achieve the same objective.

@valueaddedresource

Nothing has changed. I’ve had the same routine for quite sometime (months).

During any given week, I will end 30-60 old items. rework them with new titles, prices, photos (if needed) and throughout the week they will be re-listed under sell similar. I’ve done this for a long time, nothing with this has changed recently at all.

I use to end/sell similar, several hundred items a week, but that I have not done since late spring. Also listing 15 new items, give or take every day. This again has been a long standing routine.

I’ll keep an eye on things and see if anything changes in the next few days.

😁

*** Just adding that the only thing that has changed (and not recently) was with the items I promote; I did not raise the rate, I lowered it considerably about 5-6 weeks ago ***

This is due to an annual increase in system activity experienced during this period, which has caused external views to spike.

"Jeans season" just started. It might help to know if this happened around the same time last year. It should be possible to set a custom date range to view that.

The kids are back in school and the parents have more uninterrupted "me" time to start their holiday planning and purchasing?

So funny you post this. I had two days last week my external views and impressions and page views that went off the charts. I kept looking at them wondering why I couldn't repeat them this week.....

Then I looked at the numbers a few days ago and the graph evened out. Like it reconciled itself as valueaddedresource mentioned above.

Also this week...my sales kinda fell off a cliff. I am not blaming that on the reconciliation but just sharing my observations. I am sure there are numerous reasons for this but I kind of thought one of those reasons (in my demented mind) that ebay gave me extra business then shut me down for a few days to use me in a beta test for my region.  (3/4 Sarcasm)
