Hi all,
I"m getting frustrated with the ebay M2m messaging system. When I ship the item to my buyer, I send a user manual, warranty, and photos. I use my personal email, since I've been unable to locate a method to attach other than jpeg or png to the standard message compose window. The messages are all being sent to the proper ebay user email alias. All of a sudden in the last few weeks these exact same messages are being trapped. Does anyone know how to configure ebay messaging to accept other doc type attachments?

You can't.
Why not just send the items in the package?

Have to admit I'm not the brightest bulb in the box; however, I do not understand your message. If this is an item that you actually ship to the buyer, as it does appear to be, why can the user manual, warranty and photos be put into the same box with the clock?

photos of the finished clock, it's a restored antique clock. When I ship the clock I send a email to the buyer with user's manual, a warranty and photos if needed for shipping claims. I use my private email so I can attach all the docs (jpegs and word documents) and send them to the customer's eBay aliased email. I can't find how to attach other than photos, although in message help it states that the messaging system accepts those attachment types. The aggravation of it all, is that I've used this identical procedure for hundreds of sales with no problem. This has popped up in the last few weeks.

Consider including a 'letter' within your package containing your email address. Place the burden upon the buyer to contact you to get the documents you desire to send. In many cases, they would never need or use all of the documents.

Again, still don't understand. Why can all those documents etc not simply be put in the same box with the clock?
Photos for shipping claims? How would that help?
And, if it's a restored antique clock, why did you have multiples for sale? Or did one clock sell several times?
PS: And, if you are attempting to send these outside of eBay, maybe it's caused eBay to think you may possibly be trying an outside of eBay transaction.

Thank you so much. I thought I was crazy because no one else had asked that question?

He probably does not want to print them out.........some manuals can run alot of pages.

Also when you have a paid order you are allowed to send your email thru eBay's Messages for 14 days.

I believe you can attach PDF files to eBay's Messaging.
Also for a paid order you are allowed to exchange emails thru eBay's Messages for 14 days. Why don't you provide you email and ask for theirs and explain why you want it. If they do not reply, at least you offered them the documents and they could anytime in the future contact you if they want the documents.

Hi @dhbookds! Thanks for the tag. @stephenmorgan is right about being able to share email information for a bit and being able to attach PDF's. You should also be able to attach .doc and .txt files.
Is it possible for you to convert the information you're sending to a PDF @bugsysdadenterprises? That or the suggestion of emailing the buyer a follow-up request for their personal email address to send these documents if they'd like them, would be your best bet.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. These emails are sent with every clock that I restore for the customer or sell from my inventory. I acquire clocks from various sources and restore/repair them for sale and offer restoration service of clocks already owned by my customers. These are antiques and the instruction manual is important as the clocks are not set like the current electronic ones. The email is sent informing them of their clock being on the way, the tracking number and a thank you for their business. The shipping package also contains warranty information for the new owner. I do in fact, send hard copies of everything in the shipping box, but want to attach electronic copies of this information in the event of the hard copies being damaged in shipping. I attach photos of the clock for a shipping claim if needed, and having good quality photos available for them to file the claim as a major convenience. There is no personal information of the buyer included in the body of the message. I have researched thoroughly eBay seller help pages and can only find a statement describing all the file types their messaging system accepts. I have also tried to attach a .pdf file with the 'attach photo' button on the message compose window-no luck. eBay message help states that all the normal file types can be attached to a message BUT, there is no information on HOW to attach anything other than picture formats to an eBay message. I have tried all the available methods to contact the buyer to no avail. I send these messages from my personal email account to the customer's aliased eBay email address. I have literally sent hundreds of messages in this way, but in the last few weeks the eBay system is intercepting some of them- furthering muddying the waters as to why it isn't stopping all of them with the same information. All the message indicates is the buyer alias but no information on the particular message that was intercepted. I have been assured by the eBay account dept that this practice is perfectly acceptable. I've spent hours in chat with eBay customer service trying to figure this out, with no success. It goes without saying that I would never consider violating any policies, I wouldn't risk my business by cheating. I have been a customer of eBay since the very beginning in the late 90's (back when Amazon only sold books) , and this is my second account since the ex took 'possession' of our initial account, so I've been around the block a few times and understand their legitimate concern about dishonest sellers attempting to bypass the system to cheat. So, the bottom line question remains: How do you attach a .doc, .pdf, etc. file to a message being sent from my eBay messaging compose window to a customer's eBay messaging system ??? So far, not even eBay customer service has been able to figure this out. There should be some way since their message help pages show these different doc formats can be attached. Very confusing. Thanks for the help y'all.

No you can't attach them within system. If you have the eBay email link (from the sales order) you can send them that way. I had an issue sending someone a PDF return label because the info was gone from the sales record. Now I try to print all sales records to PDF for my record before the 15 days expire. Then I can go back to that if I need to send a label.
