Ebay should let people that may be hit with a hurricane suspend their listings till its over!

eBay should let people who DON'T have a store and have taken advantage of a listing sale that just happened, SUSPEND their listings until we are able to complete orders.

Come on eBay have a heart!

I spoke to an ebay rep. He said a vacation hold does NOT prevent late shipments. You still have to ship within your handling time.

That's why many store owners use the invisible vacation mode so that their inventory can't be seen or purchased while they're on vacation.

BUT, if you're affected by the hurricane, they will take care of any defects you get because of it.

Well, maybe.....  Smiley Wink

The vacation hold has been changed - at least on my acct. I set my vacation hold for 10 days and was not given the option to hide the listings - they are shown with a message that if a buyer were interested in your items - to put them on their watch list and check back for when the seller came back from vacation and reopened their store.

What I sell doesn't warrant a store.  Especially if eBay still requires you to have the store for a year.  I don't sell enough to justify having a store.  I sell small items,  not $100 $200 dollar items.  I am not going to buy inventory to open a store.  Can't afford that.  Don't want a store.  Had a store before the "Big Recession" in 2007 and when sales went down the drain, I closed the store, and I don't want another one.   People aren't buying like they did before the "Big Recession."  Not a newbee here.  I've been selling on ebay for 12 years.  It has only been in the last year, that I have added more than the 50 free listings, but most of those are buttons!

You dont want a store, you dont get the benefits of having one.

Every seller with a store would cancel their subs if suddenly ebay let anyone with inclement weather have the benefits of them.

The USA, Canada and the UK get limited protection when there is bad weather. Sellers in India have been flooding for a while, they get no protection.

Ok so you're not a newbie,  but that doesnt give you the right to demand store benifits for free.

I'm not "demanding" anything.  I am simply asking that eBay should have better policies when Mother Nature interferes.  Why are you so hostile?  I am asking for help, not hate!

Just cancel your listings, its not a big deal. Relist when you get back. I do it all the time, and no, I don't have a store. We're talking one click of a button here.

Good for you, you can afford to lose $15.00!  I can't!

Why are you paying to list on eBay? I don't and would never recommend it.

I think its just that this topic comes up every year.  Every year, it proves out to be that some sellers that were definately in the impact zone (or their shipping companies) were not protected from late shipping as promised.

Therefore, any seller that might possibly be impacted by Irma as in Harvey, should cancel their listings as a precaution.  Relist as soon as you feel your area is free from problems that are storm related or it's aftermath.

At some point,  you have to make your own decision to protect your long term interest.  No one can do that for you... the storm tracks are all over the board right now with landfall in the keys tomorrow morning.  Don't trust this venue to waive your problems that are weather related.  They've dropped the ball time after time in the past.  Read back thru the hurricane posts here to see.

What they have done in the past is keep some track of impacted zones.  So, with the sale when the computer sees it's shipping to an impacted zone... a note is included with the "you've won this item" blurb instructing the buyer that shipping may be delayed thru no fault of the seller to their location.

This is the solution, but - in the past it seems that Fed Ex, UPS and USPS were good about maintaining effected area zip code lists... ebay was not.  Hence the past problems. There is a solution and shippers use it... it delays their shipping.....

do you want drusalina to answer that question for everyone that pays for a store on Ebay?  Is that really a question you have and expect her to answer?

I sell on 4 other venues in addition to eBay.  All others have a user-friendly vacation mode.  To me a vacation mode is a basic feature which should not involve the requirement for a store nor should it be tied to a bonifide national disaster declaration, and you shouldn't have to beg for it.  From time to time we likely all will be confronted with a situation--illness, sickness, personal loss, personal disaster--that benefits from the ability to switch off our listings and do so easily and quickly and without fear of loss of data, money or increased work.  The lack of an easy-to-use, universal vacation mode is just more evidence of the lack of customer care (we sellers are customers afterall).

To all those in harms way, stay safe, stay strong.  Our thoughts are with you.

My sales EXPLODED yesterday. SOOO glad I didn't shut down like everyone told me to. I have been averaging $250 a day. Yesterday was $1400.... Never in my entire 20 years on ebay have I had a sale day this good. All American buyers too ( normally I average 25% international), that should know pretty well that Florida is experiencing a hurricane. So print out the labels now, and worse case scenerio, I'll drive north and find a post office somewhere lol

Yesterday 09/08 total ebay sales 1 for $49.99

Today 09/09 total  ebay sales 9 so far for $429.81

Congratulations on your ebay sales.

Must be selling/listing elsewhere.

The time to shut down temporarily  is soon approaching, keep things up as long as you are comfortable.

That is weird! I wonder why? I didn't get sales for most of the day. I was a little worried. I sold 1 thing the day before yesterday too. $100. Then bam, $1400 yeterday. Hurricane? Or did ebay open the proverbial flood gates?

It is weird, as I haven't had a sale in days, don't expect 'em either. Just happy when I get one.

The sales #'s posted were yours, now that is weird.

Do you list items elsewhere?

These are all ebay sales. I have stuff on bonanza, but that's like a few sales a month. Tho this month I had 3 big sales. which was weird. But my sales for the past month have been aweful. Normally it's $400 a day average. It's been $250. Some days I sell $50 max.  So to have $1400 sales yesterday, and mainly at the end of the day... is just unusual and I wish I could figure out why!! Keep in mind, this is my only source of income.

It's a bunch of hype! I've lived through several hurricanes having spent most of my life in hurricane zones. They have no idea if Irma will hit land or where. The stores here are empty. I haven't bought a darn thing because my experience is hype.
Last year, we were going to be destroyed by Matthew?, nothing but a little wind & rain. We lost cable, internet & electric but the electric was back on in a couple hours. I pay little to no attention to the news or weather.
Will I one day be blown away by a storm? Maybe but I don't worry about it.
If the storm is coming I will take my few listings down.

I certainly hope you are right. I just read a prediction of millions of people losing power and not just for a few hours.  That would be a massive distruption for my life, let alone trees down and flooded streets.  If it's  hype that helps people avoid bad outcomes, then bring on the hype.
