Ebay's Final value fees increasing again

The Spring update shows that Final Value Fees are increasing again.  I'm not going to address any category other than Books and DVD's as that category has seen the largest increases in the past four years.   Although I rarely sell much in the book category I have yet to understand why books and DVD's were hit with the highest fees of any category.    Even though they can ship by Media Mail there is no  discount on shipping and you pay the same fees for shipping portion.

If you have been around for awhile  you may not know that the fees for Books DVD's and Music was increased by 25% back in September of 2018  from 9.15% to 12% for Store subscribers and from 10% to 12% for non-Store sellers. 

Now those fees are being increased from 12% to  14.55% for all sellers regardless of whether you have a store or not. That is a 37% increase since 2018.

I am done using eBay. I am glad I sold much of my music collection many years ago. It's no longer cost effective to sell media items on eBay. Buyers always look for a low price and cheap shipping.  These new fees are O U T R A G E O U S. I can only assume that overall sales volume is down and to compensate for that, they are raising the fees. What else could it be?

I like how eBay is slowly killing their business with nickel and dimey greed and sending more and more sellers right into the arms of local online selling platforms like Marketplace, OfferUp, etc. By the time eBay gets their cut and the crummy GD post office gets theirs, many seller are practically giving their stuff away for free. eBay final fees currently equate to roughly 14.2%, and often more depending on the buyer locale and tax rate is...because, as we already know, eBay charges us a percentage on every single penny that's processed whether its ours or not; sale price + shipping price + buyers sales tax. And now they're starting to charge us .30 cents for a final value fee? Vermin.

I have to ask… how do you even do it? Selling books that is.

I just sold 8 magazines for $10 and charged pretty much the exact shipping - which I arranged and purchased through eBay, so they know I actually paid that amount and I’m not making money on the shipping.

I didn’t realize that they charge FVF on shipping, I mean, why would that even be a thing right? They are charging me on something which I don’t make any money off and is costing the seller way too much as it is.

So 8 magazines that cost me $5 and I sold or $10, with shipping charged at $30 (cost me $27.50) leaving me $5 profit and $2.50 for handling/supplies. Cost me about $5 in fees. I’m going to walk away pretty much even. 

Lesson learned… don’t ship anything heavy or big… or, screw over your buyers and add in EBay’s fees to the shipping charges, because that is part of shipping now. What a dishonest scam they have going. 

Like many before have said, deal with the people gaming the system. Don’t harass your customers that are being honest. Greedy… FVF on the items and auctions, not shipping.

You know who wins in this system? eBay and the post office. I’m glad I’m testing out selling things and learning these things before I get royally screwed.
