Ebay refunds a full order price, though the sellers receive only the price after the fees deduction.

Dear ebay community, please help with understanding the ebay refund policies for sellers.

I noted that Ebay refunds a full order price, though the sellers receive only the price after the ebay fees deduction.

For example, if I sell an item for $100 + $50 shipping, I get ~ $125 on my account.

But if the buyer opens a case and ebay rules in his favour (which is normal, they always support scammers even if the tracking confirms delivery), the ebay will get not $125 from my account, but all $150.

Is`n it extremely unfair?

The refund is for the full amount the buyer has paid.
What you net for the sale is after you pay fees and shipping, this has nothing to do with refunds to the buyer.
If you allow eBay to make a decisions for you on a returns and refunds, your seller account will soon be in jeopardy. Sellers who let eBay control returns and refunds get defects against their seller account for cases closed without a seller resolution. Too many of those can drop your seller level to below standard which brings higher final value fees for each sale.

On INR cases you should be responding with a tracking number to prove delivery then you would win those cases. Don't respond with tracking, eBay will step in on behalf of the buyer and rule in the buyers favor.

Suggest you READ about refunding.........

You may be eligible for fee credits - opens in new window or tab if you refund the buyer on eBay without us stepping in.

Of course, I understand all you say about not allowing ebay to deal with refunds.

But If I provide the tracking with "Delivered" status I expect that ebay will see it and close the case in my favour. Unfortunately, happens that it`s not true, just the buyer (scammer) satisfaction matters.

They (ebay) won't see it unless you respond to the INR case right away.    You would have to re-enter the tracking number and respond that order was delivered on xxx date.    If you follow the instructions you will win the case.

We cannot comment on the situation you mentioned about the delivery status and the refund.  I see you are in the Ukraine so that may have had something to do with whatever happened.  If you would provide more details about that, perhaps someone will have an answer for you.

I added the screenshot confirming the Delivered status.

I think the buyer with 1 feedback and no history on ebay was just a scammer.

Hope the appeal of the case would help.

If Seller voluntarily gives the customer a refund (EBAY will refund Selling Fees).   But if EBAY has to "step in and force a refund" they will NOT refund Selling Fees.

Amount that gets refunded to customer when using EBAY Money Back Guarantee depends on the "reason" customer used when they opened case against you.

If customer said "not as described, defective, counterfeit, missing parts" Seller is required to refund (purchase price + shipping BOTH ways).

If customer said "did not receive item" seller is required to refund (purchase price + shipping).

If customer said "damaged in shipment" seller is required to refund (purchase price + shipping).

If customer said "does not fit" Seller only refunds (purchase price).   Customer are responsible for purchasing correct size to meet their needs.

If customer said "changed my mind/buyer's remorse" (if you have "no returns" policy you do NOT have accept this return).   If Seller decides to accept return...you only refund "purchase price".

A screenshot is not acceptable you needed to upload the tracking numbers as images can be manipulated. Actual tracking numbers are clickable to the shipping service you used.

If it is not totally clear, let me make it clear.

Ebay will punish a seller by not refunding fees if a seller does not handle his customer disputes in a manner which requires NO Ebay intervention.

This means not only a refusal to reach an accommodation with the buyer but also any failure to abide by Ebay policy or procedure.  Ebay procedures are automated and failure to follow the instructions literally can cost you money, a lost dispute when you should have won, and the transaction fees as well.

Clarification/correction: These are considered "remorse" returns and if the seller accepts the return, they are allowed to refund purchase price only IF they charge for shipping separately. If the seller has "free" shipping (buyer doesn't pay for shipping separately), the refund has to be for the full purchase price.

It depends on the seller's return policy that determines whether the buyer pays return shipping.

Please clarify.

When the buyer filed their claim, it sounds like you didn't accept the return. Is that correct?

If so, the buyer asked ebay to step in, in which case the buyer gets a full refund (from your funds). Ebay also retains the FVF (final value fees) they collected from you when you sold the item.

Had you accepted the return, you still would have had to issue the refund but you would have received credit for the FVF.

EBay still did their job and deserves to be paid.  You used the service.

1. If a buyer opens an item not received case, but there's tracking that confirms delivery, then the seller can enter the tracking # into the case and the buyer won't be refunded.

2. If I sold you an item for a total of $143.56, which includes shipping and state sales tax, and it turned out the item was defective, or if just did not get delivered, wouldn't you, the buyer, expect to be refunded $143.56.  After all, if you bought that item at WalMart, and had to return it, wouldn't WalMart refund you the total amount you paid.

Just curious:  You have 2005 FB.  You've been on eBay since July 17, 2011.  Why are you just asking about this now?
