Re: Ebay may need a Doge-ing!!! Sponsoring race cars??

eBay has been doing promotions with NASCAR for years, this is the first time I've seen one connected to F-1.

I don't see what the issue is, both NASCAR and F-I especially have huge international viewers and auto parts has always been one of eBay's key categories.

Re: Ebay may need a Doge-ing!!! Sponsoring race cars??

Most of the people in their ads are young...whatever happened to showing someone with gray hair and wrinkles and such?

Would be nice to get a better fee rate for being on eBay for so long...selling items...supporting eBay.

eBay has been sponsoring McLaren F1 for the past two years.  They're just getting around to trying to capitalize on it now.  Winning the Constructors Title last year may have something to do with this.

Ebay may need a Doge-ing!!! Sponsoring race cars?

Sellers regularly come here and complain that eBay is not spending enough money on advertising. I guess no matter what you do, someone will complain.

If you think what eBay spends to sponsor an F1 team would result in a "huge cut in fees" for sellers, you are dreaming. Each seller might save 75 cents.

And eBay isn't even the title sponsor of McLaren F1.   Mastercard has prominent branding on the team's sidepods and is one of three primary partners, alongside Google and crypto company OKX.  According to GlobalData’s report, the highest-spending sponsor brands include OKX, British American Tobacco, DP World, Dell and Darktrace, among others. McLaren Racing just announced the renewal of a number of its partnerships. The extensions will see Alteryx, Medallia, Salesforce, Smartsheet and Stanley Black & Decker continue to work with the motorsports team throughout the 2025 season and beyond.

In other words, eBay is a little fish in a big sponsorship pond.  I doubt it would save each seller 10 cents.

BUT with a change. In the past I think they used to advertise as “eBay motors”. The current lot of ads does show a buyer installing a pair of headlights BUT the tag line now only says “eBay” (without the “motors” added.) That would seem to at least broaden the appeal to people not looking for car parts.

And you might want to check out this page. There appears to be DOZENS of eBay ads not related to motors. Not sure whether they are currently being aired, or are ads in progress.

Oh gawd - not DOGE. They're liable to crash the site and siphon off the money.

Just be glad for the publicity - any publicity.

And 20 year sellers are not dinosaurs, save for the ones who still think it's 2005.

Oh My! I hadn't read anything about DOGE crashing sites or siphoning off money.  Unless you are referring to cutting off billions through contracts that keep the yachts filled of those stealing our tax money. Your post uses a tad bit of unfounded drama. Relax and enjoy the ride. And besides, there is no getting off the bus for a while.

OMG - you fell for that?! DOGE itself has been doing damage control and massive clean-up of their hatchet job gone wrong and have been wearing egg on their face for weeks.  $8 million confused with $8 billion and their "wall of receipts" considerably reduced when it was found that much of what they said they did, didn't happen. Never mind the vulture capitalists called in to start circling SSA.

But Elon has 5 people, two of them dead, saying he's doing a great job.

ETA: And oh those sweet, sweet govt contracts going to Elon...  But hey, all of us on SS are floating around on our yachts, you bet. If they trash the program and siphon off the money in this "privatization", they dayum well better cut me a check for the 51 years I paid into the system.

My, oh my, you trigger easily. Since I don't need a pen pal, I won't get sucked into fake banter back and forth with you.  I worked in the Federal Government for over 35 years and could write a book on the waste that goes on. Could you? I'll send you a couple of packs of Kool-Aid, as it sounds like you might be getting low. Over and out. I have better things to do with my time. I believe CNN is on. You don't want to miss it. PS: You might try selling items with a greater profit margin unless you like working for a few bucks an hour. Used women's clothing is so hot right now. Under my main ID, I have paid over $200,000 in eBay commissions. You do the math on what my sales amount to. I wouldn't even waste my time to make only a few bucks per listing. Maybe that's where that education thing comes in. Make sure you take an umbrella with you when you go outside. The sky is falling, you know.

Huh - resorting to ad hominem attacks - that's a 7th grade debate fail. Looks like you have no rebuttal. Why am I not surprised.
