Ebay indexing is a mess

So many know it is taking 24+ hours for some cards to index and make it into the search to be seen.  so i call out the supervisor and say you are cutting into the auction durations (3,5,7 days) ,  he states that no the auction will only start once its index.  I call **bleep** and show him a few that took 24 hrs and now my 3 day auction is only 2 days of being seen.  He says "oh must be a glitch"  ebay is really starting to stink.  I have also reported that for what ever reason connor bedard hockey cards are taking over 24+ hours to index and being seen.  So when my cards are not getting the exposure i paid for and sell for less are they going to reimburse me ????

Ebay indexing is a mess

Searching ebay auctions for Connor Bedard, newest first I see 120 auction format listings for his cards posted in the last 6 hours, the newest of which are only 10 minutes old.

I am not sure what you are saying.  its about the time it takes for ebay to take the listing and post it to be seen.  I posted on of his cards on the 7th at 8pm pst and it just went live in the searchable listing about 1 hour ago.  why did it take 24hrs and worst my 3 day listing only had less then 2 days left even thought ebay claims that the duration only starts after the card is indexed and live (rep says its a glitch)  but why is mainly happening with the connor bedard cards?   I am going to lose about 500 be cause of this mess ebay wont even acknowledge

Those are questions for Ebay to answer.  Not sure anyone here can help you with that.

The indexing thing isn't new.  You and everyone else have dealt with it for many years.

Ebay indexing is a mess

@nylvseller,

I'm sorry, but the supervisor you spoke to was misinformed. eBay starts timing a listing when it is posted, no matter how long it takes to be indexed (or reindexed, if it gets revised). eBay used to explicitly say that they did not guarantee listing visibility times, but now they just say that it may take 24 hours (or more) for listings to be visible.

Your Connor Bedard listing will end after exactly 3 days. This is one of the reasons why such short auction durations may not be the most effective, and why eBay discourages sellers from using them.

Item #:166636372690
Start Time:  Friday, 08-Mar-24 04:02:01 UTC
End Time: Monday, 11-Mar-24 04:02:01 UTC

This is not just happening with this type of sports card. It has always tended to happen with higher-fraud-potential items and categories. Some sellers are reporting that almost all their military-category items are taking the full 24 hours to be indexed.

I have never heard of eBay making any compensation for this, or doing anything to change it. Sellers need to be aware of this, and take it into account when they start their listings.

I’m sure it’s they don’t want to admit their bandwidth is enough to handle their promises.

It has become a lot worse lately , 3 antique Chinese items, antique carved wooden religious figure listings indexed in the last 3 days. They need to get bigger servers!
