Ebay higher fees

Ebay is pushing managed accounts (12.55% + .30 per transaction) claiming lower fees.  On a recent transaction I did a calculation for a recent sale and found that my ebay fees were higher than using my calculator for ebay + paypal fees.   It turns out that ebay is now basing their % on not just selling price + shipping, but also the tax.  This automatically increases the fee for the tax.  This may seem trivial but considering that Etsy only charges you 5% fee, this makes me look elsewhere to do business.

Re: Ebay higher fees

I agree that eBay is lying and pitching as cost savings to sellers and it is NOT!!!!!!

All SELLERS voice your concerns in community forums NOW!!! Do not hold up on the pressure!!!!!

eBay takes too much of the sellers money before and now takes even MORE.

Re: Ebay higher fees

I am looking into a class action law suit against eBay for issues as you have described as well as failure to protect sellers from buyer fraud. Ebay for too long has been able to get away with manipulating seller fees and policy

Etsy has been a bargain compared to eBay for years. What made you wait this long to consider it?

Unfortunately, you get what you pay for.

Re: Ebay higher fees

eBay fees were 10% plus PayPal at 2.9% + .30 cents.  Combined that is 12.9%+ 30 cents.  12.55% +.30 cents is less.

Re: Ebay higher fees

It may seem less but it’s just a trick.

Before they would calculate the %12.9+0.30 cents before tax. But Now the %12.55+0.30 is after tax... So it may end up almost the same as before....

Re: Ebay higher fees

Starting August 2, you won't be complaining about eBay fees vs. PayPal that much since the latter is raising theirs.

What are we paying for even?  The site is broken half the time and they rarely fix bugs unless enough people complain.  Facebook is 7% I believe and is a better platform by comparison at this point.

Etsy WAS a bargain and still is if you hardly sell anything. Now, once you go over the $10,000 threshold the fees are MUCH higher than eBay.

Re: Ebay higher fees

Depends on what services you accept. Some of their fees are going to be lower. At least from what they sent us.

Re: Ebay higher fees

The fees on Etsy are lower. 8% + 0.25c (if you don't sell a lot), but you also need to take into account that Etsy is a niche site of handmade goods and supplies (yeah, I know there are ways around this based on age of stuff). Not to mention, Etsy will have fewer eyes looking at your stuff vs eBay. There is also the per listing (item/sale?) fee Etsy charges whether the item sells or not. Not a lot, but $0.20c is $0.20c. And can add up if you have a lot of listings. eBay does a listing fee too, but currently at least the first 250 are fee free.

Etsy is decent and has it's uses. But their base fees are lower for a reason.

Plus, because of the recent changes with making the volume sellers pay for off-site advertising with higher fees. I wonder if the lower volume sellers get included in that now.

I have 6 selling accounts on eBay with 1500 listings. It costs $0 per month in insertion fees.

On Etsy just the listing fees would cost me $75 per month.

5% on total sale (item price + shipping + sales tax. But their marketplace is very buggy. And I won't be surprised if after getting the kinks out and more and more people use it that they raise the percentage to 12.9% like Offer Up did.

Update a price or delete a listing? Sometimes you can, sometimes you can't. Oh, you can set the quantity to 0 and create a new listing, but then you have to modify the photos because they do some sort of hash check on them so they don't have listings with duplicate photos.

Also difficult or not possible to do returns so that will be a limiting factor for many buyers.

Also, if you think support here is bad? ha...they have (at the time at least) no easy way to change your ship from address there for mailing labels. It took over a month to change my ship from address from my home address to my business mailing address. Literally 5 escalations and constant we're looking into it. Just to change a freaking address.

Having said that, should be a decent competitor once they get the kinks out.
