Ebay helps buyer scam me out of $600

So I listed my iPhone X, which was in great condition, and someone ended up bidding $600 for it and won.

I then shipped the iPhone to the buyer in another country.

I receive a message from the buyer saying he wants a refund, I explain that there were no refunds for this sale and the sale was final as I was very descriptive of the item and even uploaded several hi-resolution photos of it.

Ebay then emails me saying that they are refunding him for whatever reason even though product matched description.

Ebay then takes $600 out of my account and refunds the buyer without telling me.

I email them frustrated asking when will I get my iPhone back ... They quickly respond telling me the buyer is not required to mail the phone back to me.

How is this possible?

The short answer:  No Returns does not mean No Refunds.  What it does mean is that if eBay has to intervene in the Money Backl Guarantee refund process, it will take "No Returns" to mean you do not want the item back.

Unfortunately, while we surely believe you, you are still not allowed to name someone like that. It's called "naming and shaming".

I realize it feels justified since you were cheated but the boards don't allow it.

Ebay makes it too easy for these guys.

Electronics, phones, computers are high-scam items, for sure.  However, you do not know if this buyer was scamming you.  Perhaps so, but perhaps not.

Maybe the phone was damaged in transit.  Maybe the parcel was opened and the phone you sent was replaced with a piece of junk.  (Rare, but it has happened).  Maybe the buyer found an undisclosed flaw or an undiscovered problem.  You just do not know.

Had you offered to work with the buyer and had you accepted the return, you might know, and things might have turned out differently.

I know this is a big hit for you, and I'm not unsympathetic, but maybe other inexperienced sellers will read this thread and learn from it.  It's imperative to do some homework to understand eBay policies -- and most especially Return and MBG policies -- before listing.

Whenever I get emails from ebay they automatically go to a spam folder because I get so many of them, and I don’t check the app often. I find it hard to believe they would just let this guy keep my iPhone for free.

*Side note* As a seller you need to check your selling account at LEAST once a day for messages and notifications. It's okay to disable all the spam, most of it is moot to me, but if you have items up or recent sales you need situational awareness. NONE of us are self-protected from returns. Soory this happened to you. Good luck!

Go straight to your bank where the refund was taken from and dispute it. eBay scammed you. Explain the situation and you will win.

@b0tt091

contact ebay Twitter or Facebook

their service is phenomenal

you may or may not get your refund back, but at the very least, you will get expert advice

they do give, in limitation, courtesy refunds

and don't forget to report the buyer

He would have returned an empty box or some waste electronics at best and you know it.

Re: Ebay helps buyer scam me out of $600

You didn't sell anything.  You were robbed. You offered it to a scammer with the blessings from the bay. This goes on and on and on. It will never end and the bay will be happy to help you be robbed again. If you let them. It's a **bleep** shame there is no highlighted info for the new sacrificial lambs to understand how dangerous it has become here. They win, you loose and the cheerleaders will cheer when you say you're leaving and they will rejoice and say you will just be replaced by the next unsuspecting sheep.
