I mainly sell 45 rpm 7" records, and offer combined s&h. A lot of buyers like to purchase more than one item, however if I'm running a Sale, they can not request a total for combined shipping.
Countless times, I have lost buyers because they don't want to deal with either having to pay full shipping and wait for a refund back, or provide me with a list of interested records and a special listing just for them with the correct s&h.
I can only imagine too, the number of people that put a bunch of records in their cart and go to check out but can't request a total... so they just say eff it.
I've talked a few times with CS Reps about this problem, the last one promised she'd get it resolved (months ago) and she'd keep me in the loop... but crickets.
Here's a typical message, sent last night at 3:00 am (EST) buyer in WA.:
Hi James,
I placed 26 of your 45s in my cart.
Your site says you offer combined shipping at 25 cents for each additional item after the initial full ship charge of $3.95.
I requested a new total for combine shipping all the items in my cart but got a message that it did not apply to discounted items? Well if you will please offer the combined shipping of 25 cents for the additional its in my cart then I'll buy all 26.
Thanks for your consideration,
I responded to them:
Hi,
Yes, I do combine s&h. However, there's a glitch with ebay that doesn't allow you to "request a total" on items that are on sale. I’ve spoken to eBay about this problem, but they’ve yet to do anything about it.
Most people pay the full s&h, and I immediately credit back the difference owed. However, seeing you have many, you might want to choose the 2nd option: Supply me with a list of the items, and I'll create a special listing just for you.
Please let me know if questions, sorry for the inconvenience.
Thanks,
James
And like so many times before... I have yet to hear back from them.
FRUSTRATED!

WOULD ANYONE BE WILLING TO TEST IT BY PUTTING A FEW OF MY ITEMS IN A CART AND SEE WHAT THE TOTAL SHIPPING EQUATES TOO?
@james8728
I did this for you. The first screen includes three items (One is on sale...LOL!) Though it cropped out the "request total"...it was there on that page but did not work. Proceeding to checkout, I was charged full shipping on all three.
The second screen I took out the on sale record leaving just two. The "request total" button is there again and does work so that I can send you a message. In checkout, however, nothing was discounted and I can check out and pay the full price on both.

Thank you so much for taking the time and doing those few trial runs. I was hopeful that changing the parameters in my Business Policy shipping would have solved the problem.... but nooooo..
EBAY.... PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but nooooo..
@james8728
Basically, we already knew about the "item on sale" thing. Other things that affect it are if one item has free shipping, and the rest don't, different mail classes, etc. Like I gave in an example upthread, the "request total button" did not work on multiple auction wins from the same seller either.
At least if nothing was "on sale" the request total button worked. This is the FIRST time it has actually functioned for me in years! Sorry, I don't have a record player...LOL.

Guess there's only one solution. Never run a sale again!
Way to go ebay! Keep up the good work.
ittybit, vinyl's the way to go... unfortunately I don't have any turntables you can purchase either ... hahahaha. Thanks again for the help!

You can have different fees for international. For example my most common policy is $3.50 for first item 50 cents each additional for US, $10.00 for first item 75 cents each additional for Canada, and $12.00 for first item $1.00 each additional for the rest of the world.

I haven’t run a sale in a long time. I don’t recall having an issue.
I think there is more than one way to set up combined shipping. I believe if it is set up at the store level you will have issues with sales? The way I have it set up is I have several different rules for different items I sell. I have to assign the rule I want to use for each listing individually by choosing it at the time I create the listing.

I was doing the same until the latest price increase. Now for International I use calculated with a handling charge.

Check out pirateship’s simple export rates. If you have packages less then 4pounds you save a bunch over ebays rates.

After you have shipped the item, look for it in items shipped. Next to the "date shipped" is a drop down menu and hear the bottom of that is "send refund". Click on that and it brings up a page to do the refund.

Well, it took 3 days but finally closed the sale of these 26 records. Lot of unnecessary going back and forth with the buyer, just because he couldn't "Request Total" on items that I have on sale.
WHAT AN EFFN TIME WASTE!!
Also, it took me an hour to go through over 1000 of my listings in order to "End Listing" on all his purchases.
WHAT AN EFFN TIME WASTE!!
and now find that "My Classic View" is no longer accessible through my bookmark.
Guess it's time to pack up and list solely on Discogs.
