Wasn't that about three years ago? And the employees got jail time?

CBS stated: “E-commerce giant eBay agreed to pay a $3 million criminal penalty in connection with the harassment and stalking of a Massachusetts couple, acting U.S. Attorney Joshua Levy said Thursday…”
Looks like this happened today.

Yes, the whole thing has resurfaced across the news media.

@femmefan1946 The criminal case was brought a few years ago, but this is the first determination as to ebay---the company--rather than individual defendants. ebay acknowledged responsibility and the fine they agreed to pay is the highest amount the prosecutor would have gotten if he would won at trial. These are felony convictions. So, while ebay basically settled this criminal matter, they did so while acknowledging their employees did what they were accused of and they agreed to pay the top amount, so they did not negotiate a lower fine....indicating they absolutely did not want this to go to trial. This is a criminal fine, not civil court damages.
The civil action, which could result in ebay paying much more---to the Steiners---is still ongoing.

I am not a great fan of the Steiner's or their writings, but those Ebay employees were out of control, and the company which allowed them to run amok definitely should pay and pay and pay.

Yes, the employees were prosecuted and convicted a bit more than 3 years ago.
This is apparently new ... eBay (the company) has now been charged and fined in connection with the harassment campaign.

Why do people do this kind of vagueposting?
Just say what you want to communicate and add a link if you like.
I am old and grouchy.
Thank you @fashunu4eeuh @my-cottage-books-and-antiques for clear answers.

Or, retired............. every day's a weekend for me😁

$3 Million criminal fine vs $57 Million golden parachute for Wenig....'nough said. 🙄

$3,000,000 of a 2022 $7,000,000,000 profit company (2022) is equivalent to
.43c for someone with a $1000 bank account.
Drop in the bucket and not much of a news story.

It even made it to the BBC news pages.

The money is not the punishment.
The publicity is the punishment.
Three million is large enough to catch the eye of the media, and the story behind the story lurid enough to be worth reprinting.
The ones hurt are eBay sellers.
And I suppose shareholders.

My question is...........How much will fees be raised to cover that?
