I don't think it is right nor even legal for Ebay to charge the sellers fees on the buyers tax which they do to me. If anything it should be the BUYER paying any fees on HIS TAX not ME!

It's legal. They specifically say they can check your bank account balance and withdraw your available balance as "Other eBay Fee" [Meant to be humor]

I don't understand one thing (amongst many other things, of course)
where did the 'assumption' of the configuration of the "Final Value Fee" originate?
Not a single person on this board knows what ebay pays the cc company to process a sale.
A Final Value Fee is not a total of a "commission" and a "processing fee"....nowhere does it say that....anywhere.....
if someone can show me I will stand corrected.
I was involved with 'adult' web sites back in the heyday of the early 2000's (administration, not talent)
We had to pay sometimes up to 17% for credit card processing (plus the .25 transaction fee LOL).

This was the silver lining when Ebay was forced to roll out sales Tax state by state. It boosted their sales. Increased the base $ which they calculate their commissions. They actually like it.

Don't know about the others, but Etsy charges you a fee on the sales tax also.

This is why I stopped selling here. Too many fees on facets of the transaction we make NO profit on. I understand the processing fee is charged on total transaction, as a norm, but that processing fee is just 3%. Ebay slyly rolled it into the fvf calling it an easier flat fee! It's funny how when they raised fvf to 10% even, they said it was to make it easier to calculate by removing the fractional. Then they went right back to fractional fvf's saying it was easier to have just one fee! All this baloney to their benefit.
The REAL fees sellers pay on any sold item is between 15%-20% or even more. You need to factor in the 30c transaction fee, plus the flat fees on total. Then take that fee and do the math with your selling price only. On top of that the government will take their cut come tax time. It's just often not worth it!

Every time you use a credit card, who pays the fees on the tax, the buyer or the seller? It's the seller who pays the fees on the tax. This is a normal business practice for all payment processors. Plus, ebay remits all the colleted sales tax to the approrpriate state. Accept the small fees on the sales tax & be happy that the seller isn't responsible to settle with the different states.
Hang in there!!

"..... but that processing fee is just 3%...."
Not trying to be a jerk but....can you supply the source for this information?
How do you know it's not 1% or even 5%?

Facebook does total sale as well. I guess it doesn't bother people as much since it's 5% though.

We do know what the eBay transaction fee (low) and commission (high) were before eBay combined the fees. We do know eBay eliminated porn because the credit card companies don't want to touch it - which is why your fees were so high in your previous endeavor.

I was charged 12.9% on the sale price of a business equipment when I had been told that the commission was 3% and I was charged 12.9% on the sales tax paid by the buyer. This is insane, Ebay has to show what they are doing with the 12,9% on sales tax. Taxes money doesn't belong to ebay or any business. It's money citizens pay to the govt
