At the end of last month ebay sent me an email saying that they cancelled an order due to an issue with a buyers account and that they are no longer registered on ebay and to not ship out the item, not to respond to any buyer messages, and not refund the order without first speaking with ebay.
The first issue I had was that the item was due to be shipped that day and was still showing up with the "Paid Awaiting Shipment" message. I spoke with ebay and they said to go to my orders page, find the order, click the three dot menu button, and go all the way down to the bottom and "Archive" the order. They said this will not count against me. So I did that.
The second issue I had was that a couple days ago I somehow received a message from the buyer (who they stated was not registered anymore) requesting that I ship the item out. It does appear that they are not registered anymore because if I click on the user name I get a message, "No longer a registered user". I again spoke with ebay and they said to delete the message and ignore it. So I did that.
The next issue I have had is that today I received a cancellation request from the buyer stating the "Item would not arrive on time". So I spoke with ebay again, and they stated that I was to ignore the cancellation request and not respond at all. So I am doing that, but this seems strange to me.
I have read on the forums that the funds are now mine to keep, one of the ebay representatives stated that to me as well, but it doesn't seem like that should be true. Ebay is usually very difficult to get a refund from when I am actually due one, let alone get all the funds to keep for no reason. But I am sure they have a reason for saying not to refund them, so I am not going to.
I am curious if anyone else has been through this same situation and what the outcome actually was. Thanks for any help!

No, they are not yours to keep.
Just cancel the order and refund the buyer and be done with it.

Yes, I followed the instructions given too, although I never called them, and "assumed" they would issue the refund, even though that wasn't clear. I stuck with that thought until the payment dispute (charge back) arrived in my inbox. I immediately issued the refund myself at that point and have no idea if ebay would ever have handled it.
