I'm mailing a $2000 gold necklace to/from NY. Ebay shows authentication address to CA. I can't confirm this is a legit address or a hacker. I only see two addresses that ebay uses for authentication, one in NJ and one in Vegas. Me and buyer both live in NY. Why would it go to CA??

Is that the address shown on the shipping page or did you get it from an email?

I've had several items authenticated at the Carlsbad, CA address with no problems. I did have another item go to different address. I'm thinking it depends on what type of item/brand when needing authentication dictates where it will be sent for that authentication.

According to Mapquest/Google, that address is for GTL, "A renowned gemstone retailer based in Carlsbad, CA, specializing in a wide variety of precious stones and jewelry."

how are you shipping this? I would absolutely never ever trust the USPS with anything this valuable.

* have shipped multiple fine jewelry pieces to that address, insured, signature required and they have arrived quickly and no problem.
Not sure why you would say that.
additionally that is the correct address.

It's the label given when I started the shipping process

Although I no longer sell on eBay, have to congratulate you on having enough confidence to list and sell such a high value item on eBay. Or isn't 2K considered "high value" anymore?

because the USPS is really good at losing items and really bad at paying insurance claims

Honestly I do not have problems with the USPS. I do buy the insurance from eBay..not the USPS if shipping something like dishes that are highly breakable or fine jewelry. I have one customer who received a coi-le of broken bowls, and eBay’s insurance paid immediately.
when I go to AGI here is their general address

That would depend on what kind of claim is being made. Missing Mail refunds are a slam dunk because their own tracking will show that they had it and then they lost it. Damage claims can be trickier because USPS can claim insufficient packing as the reason. I would think jewelry is light enough and easy enough to package that it would survive the trip just fine.

You should also be aware, if you’re not already, that eBay holds payment for 30 days on items over $1000.

Unless the item that you were forced to refund for non delivery after 2 weeks shows up in the next week and you can not file a lost claim for 30 days. This is considered a successful delivery, no insurance, buyer gets the item free.
Even with a package lost over 30 days with USPS there is no guarantee that they will pay.

do know that carlsbad has fine jewelry location for fine jewelry.
I bought diamond band and had to mail it back to the seller. That ring came to me from Carlsbad and went back to Carlsbad to authenticate the ring was the original one sold to me.
