So I sold an item to a buyer via an auction, buyer paid right away no issue. About an hour later I get a message from another user new 0 feedback. The user asked me if the item was still available offering me more then what the auction sold for. I told them politely no it wasn't available anymore. They proceeded to ask me to sell it to them anyway in return for there higer payment and cancel the sale for the original buyer. I told them again politely no and reported them to ebay. Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on this?

Block, report and ignore.
That buyer if they really wanted the item could have just as easily placed a bid. But instead they try to get you to violate policy by trying to get you to do an off eBay transaction.
It was more than likely a scammer attempting to scam you and may have sent you a fake payment eMail from PayPal.
Good thing you didn’t fall for it.

Good that you reported them to eBay. Now you just need to block that person.

Not much to think about; that 'person' is either 'new' to ebay and/or wanted to sink you into some type of fraud.
Easy to simply ignore (and add that buyer id to your 'blocked' list)

I appreciate the link to the buyer block list but I've already taken care of that. Just wanted to Have a small conversation to see what others think.

It's rare but it does happen. Was the item a rare collectible or an expensive but rare electronics. Anyway, you did the correct thing.

It was a laptop I sold. I have reported and blocked the user.

My thoughts, I'd be disappointed that they missed placing a bid but I would still ship to the winning bidder.
Beyond that I wouldn't give it another thought.
I would definitely not block the buyer or report them to eBay

Those 'people' have been around for 1000's of years. Cain & Abel? Muggers in an alley? They just 'play' differently as time progresses.
There will ALWAYS be crooks trying to 'figure out' how to get between you and your money.

Ya I know that all too well. Some people do it just to gain something for free, but I know other do it because there struggling financially and resort to stealing.

I think you did the right thing and I think you did things right. You honored the sale you made, and you responded in a professional manner to the inquiry asking you to do otherwise. Maybe the inquiry was from someone naive or maybe it was from someone manipulative, but it doesn't matter.

The 2nd is just an excuse for the 1st. Stealing is stealing and the 'reason' that someone gets pushed in that direction is NOT an excuse. If anything; it's just an 'excuse' for being lazy and not getting a 'better job' or bettering themselves to 'get' a better job or getting a 2nd or 3rd job. There are 16 hours in the day available for people to earn money, with 8 hours down/sleep time. The rest of the excuses is just that.. .excuses.

It has been awhile but I've had this happened to me too. I think you handled it GREAT!
