Is this a common occurrence for everyone? It seems I am floating between just above 5-10% not picking up a carrier scan at all. Most of what I sell is not worth more than $4 (cost of shipping in bubble mailer) so do feel I need to use PWE Ebay Standard Envelope. However, with more than 5% never getting a carrier scan it is holding me back from earning a top rated seller badge. Is that what others are seeing when they ship using Ebay Standard Envelope? I do always leave the barcode free of any tape so it should be able to be read by all the scanners it just isn't happening. Also complying with weight (easy) and thickness restrictions on using this method. The discounts for being a Top Rated Seller would be nice but maybe just can't be achieved using Ebay Standard Envelope? Thanks for any help.

The Ebay Standard Envelope service is not getting a carrier scan and does not work!!

Ebay touts these standard envelopes as having "limited" TRACKING and Insurance. Limited should not mean zero. I have many standard envelopes fully tracked to destination with delivery recorded. Sometimes there is nothing as poster indicates. We SHOULD be able to file insurance claims even when scanning is ignored by USPS and item is "lost" but I have had the insurer ignore my claim without any scans. Not much we can do. They will not scan at kiosks where they are available and counter personnel cannot will not scan them. Only plus is I don't think we are charged for the postage if there are zero scans. USPS gets hoisted by their own petard.

Before October 26th, my cards shipped PWE were scanned at least once 99.9% of the time. So no issues. Since October 26th, I have had 5 cards with ZERO scans! What is going on! And my sales have dramatically dropped! Are others having these issues the last 10 days?

Lol. I said in another thread I believe, that I ended using ESE and ONLY ship first class. Lots of sellers here upset they are getting dinged for metrics using the program. I was too. I did something about it. How about you guys? What are you doing? Or is your plan to wait until you are below standard, paying a penalty fee or getting banned?

eBay isn't going to protect your accounts. It might be prudent to do something yourself, while you still have the option of choice.

Yeah, I know first class is more expensive. However, you can offer people shipping deals. Like first card is normal cost and each additional card will be "x". Generally, the items we ship are very little weight. I can ship 3 standard postcards for 4 ounces.

Sellers need to ask: Which one to give up? Lower sales or the safety of your account?

That doesn't work. The majority of trading cards sold on the internet are worth less than the cost of shipping as a first class package. Forcing that shipping type will mean ZERO sales, customers have many other options.

Tracking seems to have gone back to normal with mine.

I just don’t get it why sellers are responsible when postal worker doesn’t scan the envelope then we have to refund buyers and take a loss on the card the the **bleep**. And Ebay will freaking keep our shipping fee as well. If Ebay doesn’t want to be responsible then give us our shipping fee back who care if it’s $0.50 or $1. And sometimes freaking buyers see that card didn’t scan so those piece of **bleep** want double dip and doesn’t even care that we took a loss on the card and money as well. If this the case ain’t no point selling if seller doesn’t have any protection and are always responsible if a card didn’t get delivered and who knows. Yea someone **bleep**ed up cause they didn’t scan the envelope or stole the new envelope so now it’s our fault. If Ebay keeping our shipping fees then take responsibility for it.

They care less, if they take responsibility they’re gonna be broke so. THEY DON’T WANT TO BE RESPONSIBLE BUT THEY WANT TO POCKET OUR SHIPPING FEES.

Its not that he doesnt scan the envelope - he CANNOT scan the envelope. USPS tracking scanners do not read the Intelligent Barcode routing used for Ebay Standard Envelopes. All that Ebay can report is scanning that occurs by the routing machines during sorting. It is not tracking and never will be.

If the buyer files for Item Not Received then you refund the buyer in full and seek restitution from Ebay. I think they will pay back up to $20 per claim for a supposedly lost ESE but I have not done that myself so I cannot be sure.

I have shipped about 18,000 of these envelopes so far.

Here is the current state of things.

They no longer need an acceptance scan. You are not dinged for late shipment on these as long as you generate the label on time.

They do often show delivered one day early, however card buyers have started getting used to this and I rarely get messages about it anymore, while 2 years ago I was getting that message from someone almost daily. I still keep a canned response to this ready to copy and paste to those customers.

If they show delivered and the buyer opens a case then all you have to do is reconfirm the tracking and you win the claim. I have had about 20 of these and won every one of them. The number of these claims has gone way down over time, as customers have figured out that they can't get free cards from these claims anymore. Pokemon and Yugioh buyers were particularly likely to file false claims, although Magic card buyers like to do it too. Never had a single sports card or nonsports buyer do it.

If they never arrive or arrive damaged then the insurance will pay out every single time as long as you follow the procedure. For loss the order has to have been picked up by at least one sorting machine so they know it went out there in the first place. For damage you just need a photo of the damage. In these case I refund the customer the second I finish filing the claim, I do not wait around for the claim money to come in, it always comes in.

I do my best to keep my Top Rated status but last time I checked, that alone does not get a "discount". I think they may actually punish sellers who drop from TRS which may be the same thing as a "discount". That said I go an extra step when I use an SRE. Some sorters and mail carriers do not recognize the SRE as a "thing" and want to add postage either by postage due to recipient or by returning for postage due to sender. To avoid this I also add 39 cents in stamps and put NON-MACHINE RATE PAID in red on the envelope. This also seems to encourage scanning of the SRE QR Code. FYI, if the SRE QR code is NOT scanned, USPS does not get paid and you do not pay for the postage. So USPS is doing themselves no favors.

Explore whether there is a post office near you that has self service kiosks. Mine has three. I scan in all of my First Class Packages and Priority and get a printed receipt. I then place them in the appropriate receptacle. This does NOT work for SREs which cannot be scanned at the kiosk but as indicated in another reply I put 39 cents extra on those, marke them NON MACHINE and put them in with the rest of the First Class Packages.
