I lost too much money from a recent sale because of seller fees, which are unreasonable. I got back half a much as the item I sold is worth, and it was brand new in box. I was greatly disappointed in what I received after they deducted fees from my sale. I tried to be reasonable with what I charged and not take advantage of customer price gouges, and sold my item for barely above its origional price. I wound up losting big time. I cannot and will not recommend Ebay to anyone. There are other options out there for selling your items, which I will look into from now on, especially if it is a higher priced item.

That's the experience most are having with eBay these days.

I strongly suggest reviewing fees for any platform before listing an item for sale. Every platform publishes their fees so there should be no surprises after the sale.
This page outlines eBay's fee structure:

If you ever decide to list on eBay again and need some help understanding fees, post here before you list your item and people will help.

I think you will find that any platform with the potential customer exposure that eBay provides will be in the same fee range and in many cases, it may be more elsewhere depending on what kind of other charges they impose upon the seller.

If you think ebay is bad try Etsy. I am forced into advertising because of my volume. They are more than Ebay.
Ebay is not out of line with other sites..
There are fee calculators that can help you determine a profitable price.

What part of the fee was unreasonable? The calculated eBay fee would have been 13.25% on the item that you sold and the fee was calculated on the selling price ($235), the shipping cost (about $75 to me, don't know about your buyer) and the state sales tax charged to your buyer, if applicable.

Not for me

To make a profit .. Selling anything is always about the cost of procuring you items - Buy for a dime, Sell for a dollar & you can never go wrong.. no matter the fees. This has been my mantra for any on-line selling that i have done, it is all about your initial costs.

The seller chooses the venue. The seller sets the price. The seller determines the carrier. How is failure to understand and calculate one’s fees prior to listing the fault of eBay?

Therein lies the problem.
One cannot expect to make money without a realist profit margin. I realize some big chain stores can sell with a very low margin, but they make money with sheer volume.

Well, if you do talk to anyone to relate your bad experience, please be sure to relate to them exactly what you did. How you listed for an amount that could not even turn a small % of profit when the estimated fees were clearly shown so that they may make an informed decision about selling on eBay.
Sorry to hear that you did not make an informed decision when listing.

Somehow it always is "the fault of eBay", no matter what has transpired.
No one really wants to concede that not learning about the costs of selling on eBay might just be the fault of, guess who, the would-be seller.

It also only really applies to essential goods. Usually, the amount someone will pay is the only number that matters when setting your price. Very few things sold on eBay can be "price gouged", because they're far from essential purchases.
