Ebay Cost Me $2,000.00

A few weeks ago I sold a set of 2021 100th Anniversary Morgan and Peace Dollars for $900.00. 6 Coins in all 3 Morgans and 3 Peace. All graded by NGC at MS69 and MS70. I shipped the coins to the buyer. Then buyer complains to me in emails that the NGC holders have scratches on them. For which these scratches were NOT present when I shipped the coins. So the buyer contacts me via Ebay email and we go back n forth. I say to buyer even if the NGC holder(s) have barley visible scratches on them that does not have a detrimental effect on the value of the coin(s). As the value of the coin is determined by the grade not the condition of the holder. So I DENY the buyers request to return the coins. Because the coin(s) are not defective. Buyer then contacts Ebay and reports that the coins are DEFECTIVE/DAMAGED DURING SHIPPING and requests Ebay FORCE me to accept the return. After buyer contacted Ebay. Ebay sent me 1 email. Not asking my side of the issue. But DEMANDING that I work it out with the buyer and to contact buyer. I had been in contact with the buyer for DAYS already. EBAY NEVER SENT ME AN EMAIL REQUESTING MY SIDE OF THIS ISSUE.

Next thing I know. I get an email fro Ebay stating EBAY HAS APPROVED THE RETURN BY THE BUYER. Ebay sends the buyer the return address label. I notice in the email that Ebay sent the buyer my FORMER ADDRESS to RETURN the coins. I had changed my address with Ebay 6 years ago when I moved. So when I noticed the WRONG ADRRESS in he Email, I contacted the buyer to tell him to

CONTINUING: please send the coins to the return address in the original shipping label. Buyer replied that he would not do that and would return the coins to the wrong address. So the coins are shipped to the wrong address. After coins are delivered to the wrong address (which is an apt complex) I go to my former address and the tenent there says he didnt received any package from Ebay. Now the Postal Carrier put down he delivered the coins to the apt and used MY NAME saying I SIGNED FOR THE PACKAGE. For which I did not. So I went to Post Office to complain and the supervisor said look we just deliver to the address on the box and thats it. So Ebay REFUNDS the buyer and since Ebay had to "step in" I DID NOT GET REFUNDED THE SELLER FEES. So I had to PAY the entire return amount including seller fees ($900.00). This is TOTAL **bleep**. AND NOW IM **bleep** OUT OF THE COINS WORTH ABOUT $900 THANKS TO EBAY GIVING THE BUYER MY FORMER ADDRESS. EBAY **bleep** ME OUT OF THE SALE ($900) AND THE COINS ($900).  Of course I appealed and of course Ebay stayed with their original ruling bc their ruling financially benefits Ebay. Ebay GETS TO KEEP ALL THE SELLER FEES BY RULING IN FAVOR OF THE BUYER. Now these coins were not defective in any way. They are encased in an NGC HOLDER which protects the coins. As it stand EBAY **bleep** ME OUT OF ABOUT $2,000.00. By ruling the coins are defective, for which they are not. And for having the BUYER ship the coins to my FORMER address for which I could  not retrieve them.

Sorry that happened to you. There will always be bad apples here.

This isn't going to help now but for the future there is a place to change your address for returns. Under your My eBay account>personal information>addresses.

Could you not have intercepted that parcel with USPS and had them "hold" it for you at your PO?  I have done that in the past - maybe it is not something that is still offered?

Your postmaster at your post office - can you file with them since "you" did not sign for those coins?  How were they shipped?  When you went to the PO, did you speak with a clerk or the postmaster?

eBay has a rule if item value is over $600 then package has to be signed for.  Since the Postal Carrier said you signed for the package then they should have documentation with the signature of who actually signed for it.  Did you ask to see the signature?

Since whoever signed for the package was not the intended recipient maybe you would have a fraud claim against that person. Or maybe you would have an insurance claim against the USPS for losing the package by giving it to the wrong person.

I believe that it is a Federal crime to keep a package that is not in your name. Perhaps if you can prove to USPS that you haven't lived there in years and that the current occupier of that residence has forged your name to sign for delivery, I would think that the person could be in hot water.

You can always send a letter to your old address stating the situation and that you intend to move forward with an investigation through USPS.  Tell him that it is a federal crime to keep something that was not addressed to him by his name.

That is exactly what I am thinking.  Also anything that has to be signed for with USPS I have always had to show I.D. before I could sign for package.

I get all my vape stuff online and nowadays they're all required to get an adult signature upon delivery (for which a lot of them add a ridiculous charge automatically, even if it's just a device part or whatever, no nicotine content, like as much as $7 extra, when I know dang well the USPS only adds $2 for signatures).  And guess what?  -I haven't had a single carrier knock on my door for a signature, just drop it in my box, but it's always marked that I signed.  I don't care per se, because I AM an adult and I just want my stuff, but it's kind of irksome considering I have to pay for something that's just a farce in reality, and of course they could deliver to the wrong address but that's true for any package.

Please.  No one will be investigated.  USPS delivered to an apartment complex - no way to pin this crime of the century on anyone.  USPS has better things to do.

Rim, I think if you want support you have to make sense.   Can you explain how this is a $2000 loss?   The coins you said were sold for $900.  And you said you lost the seller fees ?    Seller fees are 12% so $108.

$108 is not $2000.     Ok now the post office stole the coins and your counting that as an eBay’s fault.   OK.   You said they are worth $900.    So $108 plus $900 is not $2000.

rim, On a more supportive note , I just checked all my addresses, which seems to require toggling to all five addresses edits.    And to my surprise my “return address” is an old address!   The other four addresses are my correct new address.  That’s strange as I don’t think I would have changed 4 addresses but not the return.   Who knows what happened,  but I guess I’m lucky I haven’t had a return.

Actually ebay cost you shipping fees, ebay fees, and whatever the cost of the item was.  But in a side note, if you truly had your new address as the address on file in your eBay profile as current, then I would go to the better business bureau website for San Jose, CA, file a complaint there.  That’s where the road ends before going to arbitration or small claims court.  Sometimes they fix it, but with them hurting as much as they are stock price wise, they aren’t giving any money out right now.  They would rather fork over enormous costs for people to take them all the way through arbitration and see if they lose there first before paying anything as 99% of people won’t go that far and they know it.
